Show I S y wr r L i S I i I IMen Men Move Home From The Snowdrift At long last the men on the Snow campus have come again into their own The girls have been ousted gusted and themen's the themen's themen's mens men's dorm donn is once again a masculine preserve This marks the latest change in the rather checkered career of the building Originally constructed as a chapel by the Presbyterian church the building was purchased in 1931 by Snow On April 19 1936 it was opened to the public as s. s a museum primarily housing Indian relics and artifacts About 1938 it was closed and stood unused for two years 1 During the 40 1939 school year Snow students majoring in building trades under the direction of Glen Alexander instructor in building technology demolished the chapel in ill order to use the building stones as foundation material for forthe forthe t the new mens men's dormitory With Mr Alexander acting as architect contractor and shift boss and Snow students from the building trades department department depart depart- l' l ment doing the work it was proposed to build the new dorm Cornerstone was laid April 18 1940 just four years after the theold theold r rold old chapel had been opened as a museum The same cornerstone cornerstone cornerstone corner corner- n stone was used in the dorm donn construction as had been used t in the church Construction work was finished in time for forthe j the men to move in for the beginning of the 42 1941 school year yean With the coming of World War II and the subsequent disappearance of men from the Snow campus the girls took over They remained in unquestioned control until the com com- comple completion j p on of the new women's residence Hall this fall when men were once more allowed in the mens dorm I t f f i- i r I 7 2 4 r 1 I I.
