Schlacks and General Manager A. C. llidgway. President Scholls explained to the railroad officials that he offered hla serviies in the IntereHt of the business sud traveling public of tlie state, and that he hoped to act as a friendly mediator between tlie eumiiaiiy and th-men for the purpose of bringing to a speedy end a strike whleh threatens to spread and cause demoralisation to the business interests of Colorado. Schlacks Dsclinss to Talk Schlacks declared in positive terms that he had no statement to make further than that which wss published a week ago, and that insofar us he was concerned the strike was at an eiul. He said tlie company now had sufficient men to do the work of the strikers and that business was gradually becoming normal. In deference to the older employes, Schlacks said, he would show them preference In giving employment, but thst none of the old men would be taken back until vacancies existed. The petition presented to President Rcholts by the strikers set forth that they wanted their unions recognised, but thst they did not seek a closed shop. They wanted time and one-ha- lt for overtime and ths appointment of foremen from among tlielr ranks.
