This Is the thirteenth annual national open championship tournament, under the auspices of the Vnlted States Golf association. Interest In the tournament Is equal to that manifested in any previous year, as nearly every professional golfer of note is entered. One of the few exceptions Is Alec Hmlth, the present champion, who won the title last year at the Chicago tournament. He Is unable to defend his title this year, as he Is In England to have another try In the open championship of Great Britain. For the present tournament there are ten prises, as follows: First, $300; second, 1150; third, 3100; fourth, $80; fifth, $70; sixth, $40; seventh, $50; eighth, $40; ninth, $30; tenth, $20.
