LEWIS IEN ! i Last winter The State Journal puba long etory to the effect that the laboring men of the city were preparing to launch a new political party at the coming election. At that time It was stated that the reason for tho organisation of ths new party was because the laboring men had asked redress time and again from tho old parties, but without success, and that they had determined that it was folly to plead with them longer and would proceed to the organisation of an Independent labor party. Tho article also stated that the coming of tho new party was a serious question' for tho old parties to solve for It would certainly hold the balance of power In the city and would have to be reckoned with in future elections. A good many old party leaders did not take the story seriously st the time end expressed themselves as having no fear that a labor party would be organised or that. If It was, that It would not submit to a compromise with the other parties and refrain from an Independent ticket Since that time meetings have been held from time to time at which the question has been discussed as to the best method to pursue to carry out the desire of the laboring men. In every Instance It has been the expressed opinion that they go It alone, and last evening the first definite action was taken at the regular meeting of the Trades and Labor Assembly when a meeting waa called for the evening of July SO. at which time the organisation of the new party will be perfected, committees selected and the campaign for the coming fall mapped out. lished REV.
