By referring to the telegrujih column on the Unit page of today1 State Journal you will get the result at the hearing In the supreme court of the state of New York in the Standard till Inquiry. The following is taken from the Associated Press dispatches east of Kansas City, where they are not so "full" as they are here, and from special services to other papers and front our own reiairt on the Bcrippe line, carefully compiled. By the way you haven't read this in the bllttains and you won't, because the titlltwins do not print newsy matter; they juat run for the purpose of filling apace and spoiling very cheap white paier with very poor ink. This la under a New York date of yesterday. The hearing before a commissioner In the quo warranto proceedings brought by Attorney General Herbert ft Hadley of Missouri to oust three oil companies from tliat state was put over until yesterday afternoon. This was dune in order to allow Hadley and his counsel and counsel fur the standard Oil company to appear In the supreme court and make an argument on the order Issued by that court to H. H. Rogers instructing him to show cause' why he shall not answer the qnestlona asked him by Hadley. The Questions were, In the main. Intended to bring out whether or not the Standard OH company of New Jersey owns or controls a majority of Oil the stock of the Watere-Plerc- e company of Missouri, the Republic Oil company of New York and the Standard OH company of Indian. When the order to show cause was taken up before Justice Gllderaleeve In the supreme court William V. Rowe and Frank Hagerman. counsel for the Standard OH company, asked that the hearing on the question be put over untU tomorrow morning. Justice ve granted the motion. The counsel for the Standard OH company informed the court that It had not had time to prepare an answer. They also requested that ths hearing before Commissioner Sanborn should be held in abeyance until after argument before the supreme court Justice Glldersleeve therefore ordered that all ''proceedings before Commissioner Frederick H. Sanborn be stayed until 2 p. m. tomorrow afternoon, or until after argument on the order to show cause. Judge H. B. Priest of St lands, counsel In the West for the Standard OH company, arrived to take part In the rase. Attorney General Hadley waa not present, but waa represented by Henry ee Wollman aa counsel. Lawyer Rowe, representing Rogers, said that he has had no opportunity to confer with his associates since receiving notice of the order to show cause. The quest lone Involved were serious and complicated, he said, end he could not possibly prepare a A an- swer or be ready to argue the case In less than two weeks. He said there la no occasion for haste, aa the original case In Missouri cannot be tried for several months. Wollman, In answer, said that no postponement should be granted. All that la nought, he said, la delay, and the questions Involved are simple. He Introduced Attorney General Hadley, who was accorded the privilege of addressing the court. Hadley said the only privilege Rogers claimed In refusing to answer wee the advice of counsel. The question, said Hadley, la, whether a wltneaa can refuse to answer questions simply by claiming the privilege that he or his counsel Hid not think they should be answered. Hadley said there are proceedings pending In Missouri that will be helpful In determining the present case. v 8T. LOUIS, Jqn. 12. Assistant Attorney General John Kennish brought out before the board of railroad and warehouse commissioners. In an Investigation Instituted by the Independent oil dealers of St. Louis and Cleveland, that It costs 22 cents per hundred pounds to ship refined oil from St. Louie to Kansas City and 17 cents per hundred pounds to ship oil from Kansas City to St. Louts. It was shown that the Standard OI1 company la the only beneficiary of this high Western rate and that the rate enables the Rockefeller Interests to absolutely monopolise the oil market of the western Missouri metropolis. The hearing also developed that the Standard Oil company alone profits by the low rate between Kansas City and St. Louis, because of the fact that It owns the only refinery In Kansas City or In Sugar Creek, Mo., adjacent to Kansas City, enabling It to ship Its oil at a profit to the Eastern markets, which oil is brought to Its Missouri and Kansas refineries through private pipe lines from the Southwest. sent out the cipher, land Hadley, and again ha realised that he was up against what la known as 21 Hroadway as ati eleventh floor proposition. "In your case ha cleared the decks William Rockefeller to Europe; John 1), whose stomach cannot stand a sea voyage, and who does uot like Russian nihilists, was hustled Into domestic hiding, and Henry It. Rogers was ready for the fray. "Let me blue pencil this secret on memorandum: your There la not an Idol on the boards who so dearly lovea the Umelighta as this sine Henry H. Rogers. 1 once said to him, after listening to one of hla particularly towboat sklppcrlah eulogies against John DH 'It's a crying shame, Mr. Rogers, that the world does not understand who Is the real head of Standard Oil. If 1 live long enough I will make them see the real brains' "You can heay the chuckles aa they rolled down Into hla boots and bubbled out over the library floor, but I saw only Ills Rogerlan frown aa he answered: 'Don't say that, Lawson; lta not right I may not like Rockefeller, but 1 must never forget that Mr. Rockefeller Is the head of our grand organisation!' The last five words coming like a poroua plaster from the chest of one of Camegle'a overpaid Homestead steel makers "Henry II. Rogers would w'illlngly be parted from a million of hla and dollars than be shut out of hla present performance. "Keep your eye on this Glbraltared molecule of truth: There may be a atage In the game where you can disorganise a big Jackpot with It. Never, even In the fraction of a thought, doea ha forget to weigh up and teat back every happening and Ita effect on the ultimate verdict not the verdict of the courts of Missouri, New York or federal but the verdict of the people. "He knows better tlian any man on earth that If the verdict of this hearof the one so ing la a many times rendered, You can't heat Standard Oil,' none again will attempt g to hla consolidated buccaneering aggregation. He knows, aa none other does that If the verdict la with you, Mr. Attorney General from the wild and West, that the American tyeople, like buffaloes before a prairie fire, will sweep Standard Oil and the eyatem' Into the seas and leave the mangled forma of ita votaries so unrecognisable that the tooth of history can find no spot where the Rockefellers or Rogers went down, "I repeat. If you play your game to the full strength of your cards there will come a trick a single trick "the taking of which will change Henry H. Rogers, the master mind of Standard OH. to an ordinary man. 'Come In, Jake, and set down, he eald cordially. " 'I don't knows I ought,' said Jake, but after a little more persuasion he went In. And fifteen minutes were consumed In miscellaneous discussion of crops, when breakfast was ready. "Sit by. Jake, and hev a bite ter eat,' Invited the still hospitable farmer.
