He is a scrapper who never quits until he is completely beaten, and the moment the fight is over begins getting in condition for the next melee. With the" return from the coast of P. H. Lannan comes a sort of revival in matters political from the anti--. Kearns side of the house. Mr. Lannan can be observed almost any time in the vicinity of the office of O. J. Salisbury, who is being urged by friends to enter the race for mayor at the hands of the Republican con vention, and Mr. Lannan is one of his most ardent supporters. Of course, R. B. Whittemore is another advocate of the advisability of selecting Mr. Salisbury for the office, and has been doing yeoman service in his behalf among certain elements. The nomi nation of Mr. Salisbury would be a direct slap at the Kearns faction of the party and would cause a falling off in value of Kearns political stock. But it appears that Mr. Salisbury. is not going to have things all his own way. The Young Mens Republican club is after him with a pointed stick. It seems that last summer, when the club was about. .to have an outing at the Lagoon, Mi. Salisbury was ap preached by the soliciting committee and asked to make: a contribution for the purpose of defraying the expenses of the same. He declined to chip in and for this reason certain members are out with their hammers knocking right and left. Then, too, there are others who recall that Mr. Salisbury would not contribute to the building fund of the Y. M. C. A. because of the conduct of- the Reverend John T. Axton in the legislature which selected Mr. Kearns for a senatorship, and this, too, is said to be militating against his candidacy: Meantime a quiet campaign is being worked by the managers of the Kearns faction, which is boosting Frank Knox of the National Bank of the. J Sail Lade City Brewing Gos. LAGER. BEER. "The Gem of the Intermountain Region 3E It Is apparent that Utah has become the dumping ground for a vast amount of cheap and inferior quality of eastern beer which is selling below oost for the sole purpose of getting rid of it. It is spoiling on the hands of the manufacturers and rather than run it down the sewer, where it belongs, It is sent to Utah and palmed off on reputation instead of quality. While singling out no particular brand, we can truthfully state that the greater portion of Imported beers comes within that category. Now, we are in position to offer the beer consuming public the finest quality of lager beer ever produced in the west a pure, wholesome tonic, at no advance in price over the inferior brands. We do this to convince the public that Utah can manufacture as fine a quality of beer as can be produced anywhere in the United States! Every day strangers traveling through our city, drink the beer of the Salt Lake City Brewing Co. and pronounce it superior to any they can find, either east or west of us. We deliver to any address in the city at 93.50 per case of two dozen quarts, case and bottles to be called for when empty, and we pride ourselves on prompt delivery, so do not fail to telephone your orders to No. 17. We can also furnish, on very short notice, from five to ten cars per day of both bulk and bottled beer. - S8k.lt La.ke City Brewing Company JACOB MORITZ, General Manager But perhaps the Herald may be spurred into action again soon, by an appeal to its principal owner. Already there is talk of having tbe state committee ask Mr. Clark if his manager is running a Democratic paper, or simply an almanac. It will be remembered that last fall the party managers served notice on the man from Montana that the conduct of his paper was not to their liking; not to the best interests of the Democratic party, and that it fell into line to the best of its ability and continued as nearly Democratic as possible until after election. Since when it has devoted its editorial attention to printing expressions anent the shaking of carpets in summer time, the use of cream tartar in making raised biscuits and other topics so dear to the hearts of all good Democrats, while its local columns have handled political information on the same plan adopted by total abstinence societies in relation to alcoholic drinks. Have touched not, nor handled not. J far as the coming municipal election is concerned, the contest for the mayoralty nomination will be a finish battle between the Sutherland and the Kearns factions. The result will be a forecast of the senatorial struggle, with each striving his best to win. At this writing it looks as if the former had all the best of It and that so far as the senators hide Is concerned it is as good as hung on the fence. Of course, Kearns thinks he stands a show of winning and is going to rally his henchmen to his support, but the other side will keep up their untiring efforts from now on until convention day and then proceed to do things to Tom. Who the candidate will be is problematical. Of course Kearns wants Frank Knox, So |
