Show T RU T H. 4 SOCIAL REALM. Truth is again impelled to ask why there is so little active charity work among the clever society set of this city. According to our size there is about as much to be done here as elsewhere, and there are noble and philanthropic women and men who are doing the work. But the fact remains that among the younger girls who constitute an entertaining class there is nothing doing in the way of charity. Some time ago an impetus was given to the work by the fact that Mrs. Filer and Mrs. Mont Ferry gave two of the most successful Lenten affairs in the name of sweet charity, and it was thought that the smart set of girls would take up the plan and carry it on. But no more has been done. In every large city in the east one may hear of the swellest of social functions both at the homes c and in places, given by the real society people in aid of some favored charity. Here we seldom see the names of the society people in connection with any large charity entertainment, although of course, our really wealthy people have done an ample share in the furthering of all lines of charity. Great monuments indicative of their good will toward humanity stand in various parts of the city, but the lesser needs might well claim a share of the attention of the young maidens to whom as yet the world is a great playground. Wont some of the girls begin? If its a fad, its a good one, and many of the boys would be glad to have a charity tea atives has not yet been decided, but she. will have with her the thoughts of a vast circle of friends from all tore. qfiarters. It was wonderfully becoming, too, but the theory is that one should match the gown to the 'complexion, rather than the complexion to the gown.
