Show TRUTH. 10 r i t Briefly told, as stated before In Truth, the facts about the deal are as follows: When the Short Line and Senator Clark and his associates of the San Pedro started out to build two, from Salt Lake, to Los Angeles, the two companies got into a legal quarrel about rights of way, and the San Pedro people, in the main, got the worst of it. The idea of the two roads ' paralleling each other was absurd. The two companies got together and patched up a truce, which resulted in the purchase by the Clark road of that portion of the Short Line in operation st nth of Sandy, and there is every, rea: son to believe that the road will be built from the most southerly point of the Short Line through to Los Angeles. That is very good, and both Salt Lake and Los Angeles have reason to rejoice. The Short Line, however, will control the road. In selling the portion of its line in operation the Short Line did not lose all interest in it. On the contrary, Mr. Harriman retained 55 per cent: of the stock, more than enough to give him control. Harriman is a railroad man, Clark is not. The latter will spend the money and get the glory, while the. former will reap the benefit. By the terms of the agreement which extends far beyond the sale of the Short Line south of Sandy, the. San Pedro road is tied up to Harriman by the most stringent traffic arrangements. The Short Line retains the terminal facilities in Salt Lake, including a strip of land from Sandy north to the Hot Springs, which will be used for railroad yards and so forth. Under a ninety-nin- e year lease, and by the payment of ample consideration therefor, the San Pedro company will have the use of the yards and terminals. The statements that the San Pedro will be an absolutely independent road owned exclusively by Senator Clark and his associates is all nonsense. Clark, who has been rail-roa- : 4 i :!! ' m: ? These, however, are matters of detail. The great thing which Interests Salt Lakers is that the road is to be built, by whom it matters little to' the public. Senator Kearns cuts no figure in the deal. He is just like the lafly on the sail of a windmill, which that idea mistaken it, bored under the by its own weight, was causing the sails to revolve and the mill wheels to turn. Such nauseating fulsome rot as has been published in the Tribune and Herald about the twin senators is disgusting. Kearns owns the Tribune and lark and Kearns own the Herald. The latter, by the orders of its principal owner, Clark, puts out for the delectation of Its readers all the hog wash that bright newspaper men can think of in glorification of Clark and incidentally slobbers over Kearns. The latter in the same fashion glorifies himself through the Tribune and slobbers over Clark. Modest, unassuming gentlemen, both. . ..SEE.. (aLifornia A Delightful Place to Visit .
