Mrs. Hamlin, is second vice president of the American League of Municipal Improvement and the president of the Womans League of Civic Improvement of St. Paul, Minn. Mrs. Hamlin recognized the great natural beauty of Salt Lake and gave many valuable suggestions for enhancing its attractiveness. First of all the speaker advised getting a plan from an ex- landscape architect, not a gardner, Eertan architect, to show just where shrubs and trees should be planted along the streets and in the parks. The speaker urged that citizens should awaken to the fact that they are ruining their best sources of revenues by giving away franchises for street railway, public water works and lighting plants, a small tax on one of these alone suffices to pay a heavy, outlay for public improvement, the industrial school is a feature for good in a community and should be established and maintained. If our new public library could be a unique building it would be a great attraction to strangers. erected. The librarian and assistants are now put to their wits end for room. If they arc to remain in their present quarters a sufficient length of time, to justify the expcnce, a gallery could be added to the present room that would provide necessary space for sometime to come, but this expense cannot be incurred for only a short tenure. ft ft The Authors club met with the president, Mrs. Maggie Shipp Roberts, on Monday afternoon. Bishop Orson F. Whitney contributed selections from Childe Harold, which was much enjoyed by members and friends of the club. ft ft Mrs. Emma A. Fox has been induced by leading club women of the city to give a class in parliamentary drill. The lessons are to begin on Monday next, and the course of ten lessons will be given for $2. Members of the Parliamentary club, the Ladies Literary and the Reviewers are all most enthusiastic over this great opportunity of having snch a leader conduct this class, and they hop6' there will be a very large membership. It will be remembered by club women that Mrs. Fox is the newly elected vice president of the G. F. W. C. She is the parliamentarian of that body, and her work on Parliamentary Law is the authorized stand- ard for Womans Clubs. ft ft The Unity Circle meeting was held on Wednesday afternoon, when the ' annual election took place.
