Patterson, assistant director of the Utah Division of Mental Health, has announced that a $16,000 grant has been aproved for a study of the mental health needs of people residing within Daggett, Duchesne, and Uintah Counties. Department of Health, Education and Welfare to study the nature and extent of personal and family emotional problems, as well as existing resources to meet these needs, within a rural area of the Intermountain West. Jensen announced Monday that regional geologists have surveyed cracks, reportedly caused by the Sept. 30, Oct 11 earthquakes, that were found on the south flank of the Uinta Mountains. The cracks are located about four miles downstream from the Moon Lake Dam and Reservoir and near the upper end of Reclamations proposed Taskeech Reservoir, planned as the major feature of the Upalco Unit of the Central Utah Project Jensen emphasized that the cracks do not relate to or affect the Moon lake which has been carefully facility, examined. four Bureau geologists reported nearvertical cracks, as wide as 6 inches, in a zone about 30 feet wide and 900 feet long trending in a northwesterly direction. The disruption was apparently quite localized. The cracks, which taper downward to a depth of HTfeet, are only in the shallow alluvial surface layers. No fissures were found in the shale bedrock surface at a depth of about 12 feet. Extensive site investigations, including exploratory drilling now underway at the proposed Taskeech Dam and Reservoir site on the Lake Fork River, must be performed before final designs are made. Seismicity is among the factors to be fully evaluated by Rclamation planners and designers when final consideration is given to the design and selection of a site for Taskeech Dam. Crandall announced today that engineers from the Bureau of Reclamation have their completed inspection of Pineview and Causey Dams for possible damage from the November 27 earthquake in Weber County.
