Show Utes to host national a spons compennon The Ute Tribe has been selected as host for the 1976 Men's National Indian Activities Association Indian Basketball Championships in ApriL The National Tournament will feature 32 teams from throughout the Nation with Canadian and Alaskan Champions scheduled to also compete. According to Rex laRose, NIAA President and the Ute Tribe Recreation Director, this year's event is the Third National Championship and the first to be played on an Indian Reservation with the previous championand ships played at Alburquerque Bismark. A new format for qualifying to the Nationals has changed the tournament from 16 to 82 teams as the State Champions will qualify provided their state championships are at least twelve eligible teams. Additional teams will qualify through a special tournament stru eture as well as the host team, the Ute Chiefs. The Tournament will require two gyms and five days to determine the national champion. Plans to utilize local gyms as well as the official tournament site, the e Ute Tribe building are being made by the Ute Recreation Staff along with local volunteers who will serve multi-purpos- Union gets basketball win; play alumni Sat. The staff invites any interested person who would like to assist to volunteer at the recreation office. Boxing championships will be held at Fort Hall, Idaho also in April, and Softball, golf and other sport contests are to be arranged.
