Jim McClure IRON Copyright Jo Hindman 1977 A long awaited move against K mainland Chinas Communism began August 8, 1977 in Taipei on the island of Taiwan off the coastal provinces of the south China mainland. That day witnessed the founding of Chinese Christians for an Open :! $ Mainland China (CCOCM). It is considered to be event in the hisan epoch-makin- g tory of Chinese churches. And underscore the inescapable fact that last year another group, the Chinese Churches On World Evangelism caved in under the pressure of Peking Communists and banned even talk about evangelism's going to mainland Chinas 800 million souls behind the Iron Curtain. Another ugly fact: Many people are afraid of a Communist takeover of Taiwan, the seat of the free Republic of China (ROC). Some residents are planning to move out of the island. Partly blamed is the intention of officials of the United States to visit Communist Peking on the mainland to normalize relations. Although a number of have worked trying to reach the mainland Chinese, the earlier efforts were made under missions sponsored by Therefore this CCOCM the first organization by becomes Chinese Christians themselves to contact and preach the gospel to their brethren who are communist-dominate- d on the mainland. Idahos smaller hospitals are extremely alarmed. A recent front page headline in one of Idahos weekly newspapers put it bluntly to the residents of the Rupert area. It read, HEW Regs May Gose MMH(Minidoka Memorial Hospital). The language was simple enough, and it told the truth. The Department of Health, Education and Welfare has issued proposed health planning guidelines as required by the National Health Planning and Act Resources Development demanding 80 occupancy rates in hospitals. I did not support that Act when it was passed in 1974 because I feared just the kind of intervention in local health planning exemplified by the guidelines in question. Because the H EW requirements are totally unrealistic for rural facilities where occupancy rates vary widely, I am opposed to their implementation. Although I am still gathering facts to fight these proposed regulations, some information indicates that nearly all of Idaho's hospitals w'ould be in violation. The second set of disturbing federal regulations comes from the Federal Aviation Administration. That agency is attempting to set guidelines for emergency air ambulances. The FAA requirements mandate that rather extensive and expensive medical equipment be installed in aircraft to be used for emergency medical operations. But these' regulations will only serve to hamper emergency medical treatment in the rural mountain west. It is simply impractical to equip every aircraft which might be used in a medical L ' i a T affect you? In an exclusive interview with the Silver & Gold Report.
