Show The Paper That Dares To Take READERS! as according to columnist James J. Kilpatrick is the boldest and most scheme ever devised ng for the Sovietization of American youth, will be one of the first. In my opinion, passage of this bill will bring about a weakening of the ties that bind a family together and be a breakaway from western Christian civilization and American heritage. It would also fit in neatly with plans of the International Womens Year program which received $5 million of our tax dollars and whose primary goal is to push for ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment. Like Nancy Reagan, I am for ER without the A for today women, because of the Civil Rights Act, Equal Opportunity Act, Equal Education Act and the Equal Credit Act have full equality without sacrificing privileges afforded the weaker sex. So, who needs ERA? What also concerns me, however, is that administration under the Democrat Party has reduced historically unemployment by plunging us into war: i.c. World War I (Wilson; World War II (Roosevelt); Korean War (Truman); Vietnam If the draft is reenacted and ERA becomes law women, as .well as men, may be drafted.' In Jackson, Mississippi women in service are already undergoing combat training. You may recall during World War II fathers with small children were drafted, so with equality it means mothers with small children may also be drafted. But dont worry, ladies, the government will set up Child Care Centers and raise your kids for you. That is unless you raise your voice in protest. ERA Child Care Centers combat training is not what I want for my children and grandchildren. How aboQt you? What can you do about this? Write your senators (U.S. Senate, Washington, D.C. 205 10) and your congressmen (U.S. House of Representatives, Washington, D.C. 20515) demanding a NO (JFK-Johnso- n): vote on the Mondale-BrademChild Care Center bill, and if your state is still uncommitted on ERA write state legislators to oppose this unneeded legislation. In cases where states have already ratified ERA, join with Women for as a, Constitutional Government, STOP-ERand other groups to rescind ratification. For evil to triumph, all that is necessary is for good men to do nothing. McClure United States Senate. OUTLOOK doubt f Washington: It was not too many years ago that we could throw a line into an Idaho stream and with a little luck and some skill we would hook into a fighting salmon or steelhead. I have had that experience and so have many of us in Idaho, but now we face closed steelhead and salmon fishing seasons, depleted fish runs, and problems raised by the construction of dams on the . Lower Snake River. Because we have nearly lost our anadromous fish runs in Idaho, we have built hatcheries, have modified dam spillways, have almost completely stopped sports fishing in many areas, and our state Attorney General is even taking legal action before the U.S. Supreme Court in an effort to give Idaho some voice over what happens to our fish when they leave our state on their trip to and from the ocean. The blame for our fish losses has been placed on the dams, on the commercial fishermen, on Indian fishing rights, on poor management and on a host of other sources. A number of local, state, and federal agencies, and private industry along with nongovernmental sportsmen groups have attempted to mitigate the fish losses through so many various methods that it would take several of these columns just to list them all. The point is that there is a problem, that many have taken different steps in an attempt to correct the problem. ' During the final days of Congress this year I was able to have the Lower Snake River Fish and Wildlife Compensation Plan included in the Omnibus Rivers and Harbors Act. During the final minutes of this session of Congress, that legislation was passed, and it was later signed into law by President Ford. The purpose of the law is to compensate for the loss of fish caused by the construction of the dams on the Lower Snake River. Among other things, this law authorizes construction of four new fish hatcheries in Idaho. The exact location of these hatcheries has not been decided upon yet, although some good recommendations have been made. I find an increasing amount of mail coming to my office from sportsmen stating that there is a good deal of confusion about just what has happened, where we are now, and what can be done. It is for all these reasons that I have decided to host a fish symposium. It will be held in Lewiston, Idaho at the Elks Club December 1st, beginning at 2 pm and continuing that evening with a break for dinner between 5 and 7 The real purpose of this pm. meeting is to let the sportsmen know just what is being done by the various agencies and private groups. It is to bring together all the experts in one location, at one time, and give you and me a chance to question and discover the problems we face and all of the alternative solutions. I have arranged for most of the experts to attend this fish symposium. I now encourage and invite all sportsmen to this free . meeting. I believe that it will be very informative for all of you who arc interested in sports fishing and our salmon and steelhead fish runs. M ost of all it will give you a chance to question those people who are Georgia Congressman Larry McDonald took a strong stand for United States withdrawal from the United Nations, stating the UN has fallen short of its original goals. The statement was made on a national television program entitled The future of the United Nations that was taped this week and will be marketed to Public Broadcasting stations. The program was sponsored by the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research and was moderated by John Charles Daly, former ABC news executive. Other panelists were J. William Fulbright, and former from Senator attorney Arkansas; Leonard Garment, former Counselor to the U.S. Delegation to the United Nations 30th Assembly; and Joseph J. Sisco; President of American and University Undersecretary . of former State for Political Affairs. Me Donald who was the only panelist opposing UN involvement stated that the United Nations has not been successful in upholding its original purpose of peacekeeping in the world. As example, the Congressman cited the case of the African country Katanga, a peaceful nation that was invaded by UN forces. Here was a country that wanted only peace, said McDonald, and was faced with UN barbarism. - In addition, McDonald stated that the United Nations has done clearly nothing toward suppressing Communist aggression.- It has, in fact, allowed communism to persist, asserted the Georgia lawmaker. The UN has been used as a smoke screen while tyrannical powers continue to build up, he stressed. It is time that the United States realizes that the UN purposes are not in our own best It interests, said McDonald. does nothing to promote the free It does not enterprise system. encourage the development of new riches for underdeveloped countries. Instead, it redistributes riches. We will not build up the rich by tearing down the poor," the Georgia solon stressed. ' The United States has been unwilling to admit its mistakes in the past, said McDonald. I think that failing is particularly evident in regard to the United Nations, he concluded. The press must be free; it has always been so and much evil has been corrected by it. If government finds itself annoyed by it, let it examine its own conduct and it will find the cause. Thomas Erskine the plans formulating abundant to return attempt anadromous runs in the Snake, Clearwater and Salmon Rivers and their tributaries. This symposium will not be the solution to the dwindling salmon and steelhead fish runs in Idaho. It will help to put all of the problems and the possible solutions into a clear perspective so that all of us have a better and more thorough understanding of ths situation. We are all hopeful that we might rebuild this precious resource to as near its original state as possible. I am dedicated to that goal and I know that most Idahoans share these concerns. the in GOVERNOR RAMPTON VERSUS ORDER Captain Joe H. Herguson LAW AND RAMPTON PROTECTS CONVICTED MURDERER Governor Calvin Rampton, in his last days in office, appears to be launching a new attack against law and order. This attack is in the form of a seemingly determined. effort to prevent convicted murderer Gary Gilmore from being executed. After Gilmore was tried, found guilty and sentenced to be executed, Rampton ordered a stay of execution. Now, if there is any reason for a stay of execution: any new evidence, any reason to believe that the condemned man might be innocent, a stay of execution would be proper. But in this case, there appears to be no other reason than thegovernor just does not want to see the penalty imposed. The rumor has it that Governor Rampton simply does not want Gilmore executed, regardless of his guilt, while Rampton is in office. In other words, it just appears that Governor Rampton is opposed to protecting innocent citizens from vicious killers. GILMORE A PROVEN VICIOUS KILLER The Gilmore case has received nation-wid- e publicity. He has been on television and the cover of national magazines. A lot has been said about Gilmore the prisoner, and said in a way to gain sympathy for him. But the liberal news media has said little or nothing about Gilmores victims. Tremendous coverage has been given to Gilmores girlfriend, Nicole Barrett, but little or no coverage has been given to the wife and family of Bennie Bushnell who was murdered in cold blood by Gilmore. d This warped and piece of news reporting, or should we say news distortion, is in itself an injustice. one-side- THE RIGHT TO PROTECTION FROM KILLERS Killer Gilmore has been bathed in publicity since his conviction. It appears that many people, including Governor Rampton, are attempting to prevent him from being executed. In other words, they are opposed to penalties being imposed upon criminals. They profess to be acting out of feelings of humanitarianism. But killers like Gilmore show no sympathy to the innocent members of society whom they choose to be their victims. And, surprisingly enough, the humanitarians who express such sympathy for Gilmore express little or none for his victims. It appears that the present plan is to commute Gilmores sentence of death to life in prison. The next step would be for a pardon in five or ten years, turning Gilmore loose again on society. The next step, in all probability, would be for Gilmore to select some more innocent members of society for his victims. The only way to prevent it is to impose the penalty of death that Gilmore has earned. It is time for the government to give some protection to the innocent members of society from killers like Gary Gilmore. LOW INTEREST RATES AND HIGH UNEMPLOYMENT There is a connection between interest rates and unemployment rates. In the Great Depression, when interest rates were at their lowest and near zero, unemployment rates were at their highest and near 30 percent. As interest rates rose to their peak in the 1970s, unemployment rates were low. It all depends upon .how good or bad business is. When its good people borrow to buy and businesses borrow to expand, and there is more than enough work for everybody with interest rates up and unemployment down. Now, when everybody and everything seems to be against business, businesses, are not borrowing and customers are not borrowing, and interest rates are down and unemployment is up.
