Show The Paper That Dares To Take A July 17, 1975 The Utah Independent Page 3 Stand READERS OUTLOOK Continued from page 2 America go down the drain. 1 sometimes wonder just how many of our Leaders in the Latter Day Saint Church are falling right in line with the work of Satan, disregarding the God Inspired Constitution. This last week an article came in the Church News, about the Guns being the cause of so much killing, what they dont say. who has those guns that do all of the killing? Why dont the ones who write these articles explain what they believe in? Not to leave members hang on a limb to know just what stand on this issue take, no man in his right mind wants to see people killed; but I have failed to see a gun walking around alone on the streets ready to kill someone. Another article appeared a week or two past calling our attention to the organizations in our country trying to do all they can to destroy our way of life. Why dont the person make mention of the Good Patriotic Citizens that are doing all they can to save America? Why does Satan have such an influence on people in this Country, especially the Members of the L.D.S. church, especially the John Birch Society. 1 wonder just where we in America would be today if it had not been for the John Birch Society? Lets start to give some credit where it belongs, to those that have been trying for some time now to save the very thing that has made America what she has been in the past, and what have they got for it? A kick in the Teeth. When will our People ever wake up to what is going on??? The J.B.S. told us 10 or 12 years ago just what is happening today, but do we find anyone giving them credit for it? Still the Secret Combingation continues on. One could mention a number of secret organizations in our Country. And to think that we in America sit by and let Corrupt men tell us what is best for us. when in their own country they have 1 am been a complete failure. happy for the great work the UTAH INDEPENDENT has done in the past and at present. Keep up the Good work. Keep up the fighting to keep our Guns. L. L. Burdick Bennington. Idaho DISARMAMENT Dear Editor: How ironic it is that while Americans were being told of the horrors of nuclear war and the supposed advantages of limiting our defenses, the Russians were arming to the teeth. But thats the game to disarm the United States while building up the military power of the Soviet Union. This has not been done by mistake or stupidity, but strictly by design. If the Just ask yourself: Soviets arc really sincere about detente and peaceful coexistence, why arc they arming at such breakneck speed? Why arent they diverting that spending into consumer needed desperately And why is Henry goods? Kissinger letting them get away predecessor. Walt Rostow, was calling for an end to nationhood", we were developing no new strategic weapons and were scrapping systems vital to our survival in a nuclear age. By 1965 Henry Kissinger was adding his two bits' worth, saying that the, time was at hand for a surrender of our nationhood. When Kissinger took over our national security, he froze the number of our missiles to allow the Soviets to achieve superiority, and had the effrontery to announce that we. would not retaliate against a nuclear strike, even with advance warning, until after our cities and installations had actually been hit. We just lost South Vietnam by fighting a war that way! The pattern is very clear. By weakening the United States and strengthening the U.S.S.R.. the are gravedigging conspirators blackmailing us. The Communists with our are working Establishment Insiders" to scrap our national sovereignty and merge us all into a New World Order. Thus are we being conned into accepting World Government. The next few months are crucial ones. The mass media will be full of detente propaganda. Americans must be strong. We must make each other aware of what they are doing to us we must resist them! Sincerely. Dorothy Walden Desert Hot Springs. California 92240 RENDER UNTO CAESAR Dear Editor: A few months ago I wrote this quote as I felt it was the true scene of today. Maybe some future date you will have an occasion to use it. Truthfully, Margaret Sevelin Peru. STOP ABORTION I M TOO YOUNG TO DIE! ON COURSEl BOYCOTT AND GAG by Jo Hindman Copyright 1975 For printing the facts, a newspaper is reportedly boycotted, economically gagged, and in danger of dying. Edgefield Advertiser of the South Carolina city of the same name after publishing the with Capt. Joe H. Ferguson FORD CLAMPS DOWN ON GUN OWNERS Captain Joe H. Ferguson ws about a controversial federally financed water system in U.S. Sen. Strom Thurmond's jurisdiction experienced abrupt cancellations by advertisers and subscribers. The action threatens the paper's existence. Two of its employees walked out to start a rival newspaper in the same city. W.W. Mims, owner of the allegedly boycotted Advertiser, began suit May 24, 1972 in federal court against seventeen (17) defendants who allegedly have conspired to silence him and are waiting for his circulation-starve- d newspaper to die. Included as defendants are the walkout publishers of the then Edgefield County News and the older Ridge Citizen in The other nearby Johnston. just-start- defendants, said to ed be businessmen, farmers, and one attorney who now is a Congressman, arc charged with violating the Sherman Anti-Tru- st Act that forbids illegal acts in restraint of interstate trade. The Advertiser operates on an interstate basis. The aggrieved publisher seeks triple damages which is not unreasonable considering that the original fine w'as once $50,000 per each conviction, but now is a mere slap of $5,000. The victim newspaper,, in existence for over 138 years, is continuing to lose income, profits and advertisers due to the conspiracy as claimed. Established February 11, 1836, in the family since 1 874. the publication enjoys a venerable history, going back to the weeks of the Alamo when Colonel Travis of Edgefield County and James Bonham went to the Texas stronghold to become immortalized. The pages of the Advertisers two weekly rivals are sprinkled with the Thurmond name. Because Strom Thurmond Hjgh School begins summer school. This would be accomplished by starting with reducing the number of According to one gun dealers in the country. administration official, there are about 150,000 gun dealers in the country and the administration hopes that this legislation would reduce this number down to about 40,000. This would be accomplished by imposing a federal dealer license with such a high fee that it would force 10,000 dealers out of business. One administration official stated, The proposal is to make the license fee for dealers high enough so many would find it prohibitive to deal in guns, especially the This who sell Saturday night specials. proposed legislation, which is being pushed ostensibly to control crime, has two blatant fallacies. The first is that it is not the Saturday night specials which cause crime. It is the criminal element. And if the criminal cannot obtain a Saturday night special, he is going to get a dollar Thursday noon special. Secondly, the statement implies that the dealers who sell the cheap Saturday night specials will be the ones who will be driven out of business. Many of the dealers in these cheap guns make higher profits than do other gun dealers, so they will be better able to pay the exorbitant license fee. Thus, the dealers in the Saturday night specials will be actually helped by the legislation as it will eliminate much of their competition. privately-owne- d 1 fly-by-nig- hts two-hundr- ed DANGEROUS PRECEDENT The proposal by the Ford Administration is both foolish and dangerous. First, it will not accomplish what A it proposes to accomplish. Secondly, the method being proposed of using prohibitory license fees is a vicious abuse of government power. If the government can eliminate any business it wishes to by the use of prohibitory license fees, then the road to a complete dictatorship will be a very short one. There would be no end to the things which would be regulated by this manner once it were started all businesses, and even our private homes and properties. This must be stopped at all costs. OUR MISDIRECTED CONCERNS To be so concerned over CIA activities and not to be concerned over the Soviets KGB activities is like being concerned over our Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and not by being concerned over what their Storm Troopers and Gestapo are doing here; but isnt this exactly what Americans are now doing? THE DANGER IS... The danger isnt from people embracing Communism; very few ever do, even in Russia or China. The danger, real and present, is of peoples and their nations being embraced by Communism, unescapably; which is nations are called Captive Nations why Communist-embrace-d and not Communist nations.
