Buena Park, California 90690 t Independence, as in The Declaration of Independence, as in George Washingtons warnings against The key wordis entangling foreign alliances; and to this day if we ever lose our independence we will have lost America. Independence indeed imposes national not only in a military sense but requires national also in all our other relationships from moral to economic; but it does not mean isolation, but rather a free commerce in goods and ideas with other powers, unfettered by unnatural bonds. What has always endangered America, as Abraham Lincoln observed long ago, lies within. But even he probably could not foresee days such as these when our national Administrations and are increasingly Yet the facts must which is almost unbelievably be faced now when they can be handled. For if Americans do not rally now to preserve our America and Americanism will be lost to us self-defen- se ce anti-Americ- 1975 PETITION The principal reason for unemployment is rigidity in the price-wag- e structure. A man earning $12 to $15 an hour cannot sell much of his product to a man earning $4 or $5 an hour. Imbalance blocks exchange. Reciprocal relationships promote the free exchange of goods and services. The man with the high hourly wage has established it by force in violation of the free market. As a result, he is frequently unemployed. When he applies for unemployment benefits he may be told of a job paying $5 or $6 an hour. He may refuse it saying that it is not a suitable job for him. He then receives unemployment benefits, sometimes running as high as 95 percent of his earnings when working. In some states, compensation payments approach normal earnings. Moreover, they are tax free and not subject to the usual payroll deductions. Under such circumstances many men refuse alternative jobs. Are they really unemployed? Sad to relate, men who are willing to work at much less than these men demand, are d taxed to support their brethren in idleness. The intention of unemployment benefits was to bridge the gap while one was seeking another job. They are being used with increasing frequency to enable some to live at the expense of other workers. What we need is a flexible wage scale so that men who cannot find jobs at $12 or $15 a day may be free to accept other jobs paying what might be considered a normal wage in keeping with what other men are earning who do work requiring similar degrees of training and skill. and In a free market, wages and prices are a fair degree of balance is maintained. This promotes full employment, but once government or organized labor union pressure establishes an arbitrary level of remuneration for one group that is not in reciprocal relationships with other groups, unemployment is the result. The free market shifts manpower, capital and raw materials away from the manufacturing of goods and the rendering of services that are less in demand into other lines that are more in demand. When this process is continuous, jobs are available for all who wish to work. by government Unemployment is caused by force of economic activities the people and by intervention in the labor union pressures that maintain men in idleness rather than to allow them to accept wages that are in balance with those of fellow workers. collective bargaining of our times is a farce. The When a mother has hungry children, can she bargain with the driver of the milk wagon for lower prices? When people are freezing can they bargain with coal miners? Can helpless people on hospital beds bargain with their nurses and attendants? No more than a man with a gun at his head can bargain with the robber. Free, voluntary action on the part of all men along with sound money are the answers to the problem of depression and unemployment. OUR INDEPENDENCE IS VITAL FOR US NEW YEARS RESOLUTION a. independence, forever. Dear Editor: Enclosed is a petition to halt the growing police powers of the Please federaj government. if it examine carefully and. you like it. please publish it in your paper. It is now obvious to me that the federal government intends to prohibit the possession of all firearms eventually, and that it is doing this quite gradually and seemingly innocently. Federal agents of the Alcohol. Tobacco and Firearms Division of the Treasury Department arrested (in my opinion entrapped), prosecuted and obtained a conviction of a local policeman who possessed an automatic rifle for riot duty. Although it is true that he did not register it with the federal government, it was obvious to him and others of us that had he done so, the left-wipolice chief would have confiscated it, and the officer involved was assigned to a district where riots had occurred and probably would occur again. He had it for a back-u- p weapon only. If you remember, it took between 5 hours for the L.A. police to get sufficient fire power to its officers a few years ago when they were shooting it out with Concerned Black Panthers. in many cities are policemen wondering about new policies which are seriously curtailing the ability of local law enforcement agencies to respond to emergencies, hence the procurement by this officer in Sacramento of a suitable weapon. A.T.&F. agents even lied about the policeman mentioned, saying that he was selling illegal and dopeheads weapons to revolutionaries. 1 know it was a lie because I thoroughly investigated the contention, and in addition I have been personally acquainted with the policeman for several years. His philosophy of life was the direct opposite of such an act. Please notify me of your reaction to the petition. Sincerely. ng 4-- Gordon L. Ginn Truth for Youth Comes now the end of the year Nineteen Seventy-Fou- r. And looking the year over, it has been a disastrous one for our country, for constitutional government, and for liberty. Scandalous and illegal activities involving the president, the highest officer in our government, forced his resignation. Multitudes of other illegal activities have been uncovered involving other members of our government; For the first time in our nations history, we are being ruled by an president and d And the Congress Due disastrous. to some might prove very skillful blundering on the part of Republicans and d some skillful if political by the Democrats, we now have by far the most socialistic Congress ever elected. We might think we have troubles now. But we havent seen anything yet. Taxes are going to increase, inflation is going to take off like a prairie fire, and well see a scourge of dictatorial federal regulations. In short, our very freedom is going to be under a severe attack. So what do we do? Sit back and twiddle our thumbs? Not on your life! Not Americans! America was made by men and women who rose to surmount the challenges and crises of their times. The soldiers of the Revolutionary War went hungry and poorly clothed in the worst of New England winter. And they usually werent even paid. Another great American, Captain John Paul Jones, established a tradition for all Americans who would follow him. With his ship sinking under him, and with the captain of the enemy ship demanding that he surrender, he not only would not surrender but fought with renewed determination and won the battle. Americans of today can well take courage from the example set by Captain John Paul Jones and his famous, I have not yet begun to fight. There has never been a better time since 1776 for Americans to resolve to themselves to renew and redouble their determination and efforts to work for a free America and to rid our great country of the plague of collectivism. As for me, I hereby resolve that I will spend every ounce of my energy, time and means 1 possess in order to the Constitution of the United States as the governing law of this nation. I pledge to the readers of this newspaper that, I have just begun to fight.
