Show 8 INTER-MOUNTAI- MINING REVIEW. N - Jteuis of tl?e 5amps. UTAH. Tooele County. CAMP FLOYD DISTRICT. Correspondence Mining Review. Quite an important strike was made in the Hog: Pen shaft on the Brickyard group. At a depth of 100 feet they opened up a fine body of oxidized ore. This shaft is situated about 250 feet from the south end line of the Brickyard group, and near the lines of the Brickyard and Justice claims, and only about 600 feet from the Hecla shaft. This body of ore is dipping: toward the Hecla and Wonder properties, and is the nearest ore yet found there. The owners of the Hecla Mercur, Sept. 2. and Wonder are highly elated, as this makes the striking: of this large ore body an assured thing with a little more depth. The Hecla was delayed for some weeks by the shaft caving in, caused by running ground, but they have got it in good condition again and are in better shape than they have ever been to push the work to completion, having two sumps about fifty and sevenfeet respectively from the botty-five of tom the shaft, which catches all the water, leaving the bottom dry and nice for the men to work in. They are through all of the hard ground they will have to encounter, and after passing through the soft porphyry, which overlies the ore, they will break into the ore body. They are working three shifts and pushing work as fast as possible, and should encounter the ore in thirty days. The Geyser is now milling ore of a much higher value than that formerly treated, taken from a point recently opened up east of the old workings. This ore carries $6 to $8 per ton, and is conveyed to the mill over a tramway. The capacity of the mill is to be Increased to 100 tons, which will, only involve the purchase of additional tanks. The Great Eastern company, whose property is located east of the Mercur, Is sinking a shaft. Cannon shaft has in the Drifting demonstrated the fact that they had gone through the ore. Since they have gone back and started the present work they have had values continually. The Marion has struck a large tody of gold ore just over and on the silver vein. This is unusual in Camp Floyd district, as the silver vein has heretofore been found about 200 feet below the gold. This is no doubt a separater strata of what is known as the Mercur vein, and shows that little as yet Is known of ths camp. 900-fo- ot 300-fo- ot Mercur Mercury: It is the talk among the directors of the Overland, at Sunshine, that it will in the near future n be the possessor of a mill, which they intend to erect in such a manner that the capacity may be enlarged as the increase of ore requires it The ore at this property now has a value of $8 to the ton. and is steadily increasing as they proceed on the vein. The drill working at the East Golden Gate is now down about 350 or 400 feet. Owing to the breakage of the drill the work has been during the week now in a dark limeslow. They are No values stone formation. worthy of mention have yet been found. The shaft of the Mercur Deep Mining and Milling company, 100 feet north of Main street, under the management of Ben Olsen, is making rapid progress, and the steam hoist will soon be in 150-to- - - Heaven section of Mt. Baldy, nine miles southwest of Marysvale. The Wedge is a prospect situated above the Dalton, and is owned by Sheriff J. U. Sargent and Dr. F. J. Lyons, both of the Vale. The property was first discovered some years ago, but little was ever done there until last week. set about some development work and came upon a three-foo- t vein of telluride ore that goes $126 in gold and carries 86 ounces of silver, thus worth $184.48 to the ton. The Wedges owners are transported with joy at their lucky hit, and will go right Mr. Sargent ahead with immediate operations. Juab County. TINTIC DISTRICT. Eureka Democrat: Renewed inter est has been awakened in what is known as the Saltpeter mine, lying in the pass between Goshen and Mona, about twenty miles east of Eureka The deposit, or claim, was located by George Ellison of this place several years ago, but little has been done upon the property aside from the annual assessment work. Joseph Cronk of this place, who was formerly employed by the Santa Cruz Powder company, knowing the large amount of nitrate used in the manufacture of powder, decided to send a sample of the material to the company and ascertain its commercial value, if any, and was promptly requested by the company to express them at least fifty pounds at their expense,, which he did on Monday. No doubt it will soon be determined if the material carries a sufficient per cent of the nitrate of potash to pay to mine at a profit. The sample shown us has a very caustic reaction, and would indicate it to carry a high per cent of either soda or potash. The deposit of ledge matter is claimed to be about twenty feet between walls, and the decomposed matrix and rock thoroughly impregnated with the alkaline substance. The East Tintic railroad has begun hauling freight over its line to the mines above, and in a week or ten days will be moving the product of the Mammoth mine to the mill and market. A short year or two ago it would have been looked upon as a wild forecast to have predicted that the iron horse would b today hauling the ores down Mammoth Hollow, and that a prosperous and happy community with churches and schools, commodious hotels and residences, with all modern stores and improvements, a newspaper to make its wealth and the opportunities known, would cover valmountain sides and is the history of the such But ley. mining industry. The work of widening and lowering the floor of the Humbug tunnel is being pushed ahead as rapidly as possible with twro shifts of eight men, and it is expected this work will be completed and the property ready to begin an active output of ore by the time the road to the mine is completed. The contractor is confident this can be done inside of twenty days. No work has wrell-stock- ed sage-verdur- ed been done in the face of the tunnel or upon the ledge for the past two weeks,e but there is so far exposed full twenty-fivfeet of the ledge, all good shipvein that asping ore, with a six-fosays very high in gold and silver. ot From present appearance the Humbug is destined to soon be classed among the big shippers of famous Tintic. It has been rumored for some time that the North Star people were contemplating building a mill for working their own product. Report has it that the company has now definitely decided to put up a combination mill over. before the season Is 40-sta- mp place. Shipments from the district for the There have been two new drifts made week are as follows: From the Bul on the Arab shaft of the Brickyard 30 carloads ore; from k properties, one north and one south, the Bullion-Bec-mine, k mill, 10 carloads conboth having a good body of ore. centrates; from the Centennial-Eurek12 carloads ore; from the Eureka Hill Piute County. mill, 9 carloads concentrates; from the Richfield Advocate: Another rich Ajax, 6 carloads ore; from the Utah, 4 strike has been made in the Horse carloads ore; from the Sioux mill, 4 lion-Bec- a, - carloads concentrates; from the Swan7 carloads ore; from the North Star, 3 carloads ore; from the Morning glory, 1 carload ore; from the Dragon Iron mine, 2 carloads ore daily. The Miner was on Wednesday shown some fine samples o? ore taken from the north and south drift, from the 220 level of the Yankee Girl, both of which are in a good grade of shipping ore. The policy of the company, however, will be to thoroughly prospect and develop their fine property before commencing regular ore shipments, and to this end Manager T. A. Walley advisej us that they will at once let a contract to sink 100 or 150 feet deeper. We are pleased to be able to report positively a big strike of high grade ore In the Sunbeam this week. The strike was made in the drift from the 200 level, and is reported to be of considerable magnitude. Manager Jones states that he will be able to commence regular shipments inside of two weeks. In the meantime the work of opening up the lowrer workings of the property is being pushed. sea, . Salt Lake County. Bingham Bulletin: J. B. Hazelgrove and M. T. Wood are sinking on the vein of the Little Joker, at the head of Bear gulch. It carries straight gold ore that pans free gold, and is a very desirable property. The Old Reliable has the advantage that when lead and silver are down it can switch operations to its gold belt and placers. There are a number of good gold prospects inviting attention. There is at least one placer proposition in Bingham that a couple of miners can put their labor in against the ownership, and get quick returns and a good thing. A strike in the lower tunnel of the Northern Chief is giving up gold ore. The size of the not is streak reported, and we have no 200-oun- ce free-milli- ng particulars. The Williams, extension of the old Damphool is being worked under lease by Charles McCann, Roy Bemis and Bob Campbell. Every miner in Bingham is putting in three eight-hou- r shifts a day wishing for the success of the gallant champion of silver. The boys working on the Lone Tree have indications that they will tap the vein this week. The hoisting machinery for the Frisco mine has been ordered, and will be put in early in September. Summit County. Park Record: The present week has witnessed a grand change in the personnel of the above company and a resumption of activity that speaks volumes for the future importance and energy of the corporation. To begin with, the option held by the original organization on the t rown Point and Munadore claims expired last Monday, and the reorganizatior, which included several prominent Chicago attorneys and one or two leading Salt Lake capitalists, was effected just in time to prevent the option held from lapsing and the amount of the bond, $12,000, was paid to Peter Kraller and L. Simon, they getting $6000 each. The m w in company held a meeting Monday of Salt Lake and elected a new board directors, of which W. J. Hines is president, T. W. Clark secretary and treasurer, and Patrick Ryan general manager. The new board is said to embrace some of the most eminent legal talent in the Western country, and that when the conflict between the Crown Point and the Ontario company Is called up in court there will be such a legal battle as was never before witnessed in the courts of Utah. George Hall, superintendent of the company, left for California Thursday, to close up the title to the ground with Mr. Simon, there being several legal documents yet to be signed. Work on property will be pushed with more |
