The ore from the Spanish mine in Ne vada county, Cal., carries but 91 cents per ton, and it is mined and milled at a cost cents. The Steam Dredge Placer company has commenced operations at Warrens, Ida. Some rich quartz discoveries are reported in that district. The Boston aiid Montana smelter at Butte is now working three eight-hoshifts instead of twelve hours, and wages have been reduced. The American Placer Mining company has expended $25,000 on a bed-roc- k placer flume at Pierce City, Ida., and expects to complete it in July. Some good gold discoveries are reported in the mountains west of Ephraim, Sanpete county. Assays as high as $16.80 have been obtained. The Midas Bar Placer Mining company, on Snake river, is washing 2000 yards of gravel in ten hours, working six men, and saving $100 per day. At Telluride, Colo., $1100 will be distributed in prizes for rock drilling conn tests on the Fourth, and no miners will be permitted to compete. The rush of miners to Alaska is now followed by a rush of tourists. The miners are seeking gold and the tourists are seeking opportunities to spend it. The names of members of the Boise Mining Exchange who are delinquent on their dues have been published and they are threatened with legal proceedings. The London market for South Africa stocks is dull and depressed. Copper stocks continue to advance, owing to the expected shortage in the supply of the metal.
