The company makes American Zinc-Lea- d zinc-lead from such ore a pigment, conlead into pigverting all the zinc and and gold at silver ment and saving the the same time. Many thousands of tons have been treated continuously for over five years with uniformly even and constant results, and at a cost of from $4 to $7 per ton, and with a loss of from one to two of silver per ton of ore, saving all the lead and 90 per cent of the zinc. comWhile the American Zinc-Lea- d pany convert all the lead and zinca into facpigment, this is not necessarily tor, as by simple changes it is possible to save all the lead and silver and allow the zinc to escape in the slag. In Hill other words, ore like the Brokentreatin offers no obstacle whatever ment, provided proper methods are used, and such ore does not go begging here in Colorado for purchasers. Lewiston Tribune: The Hydraulic Placer company that recently built in .ROUTE this city the steam barge, Leota, are now actively at work on the John Weiss bar about eight miles below the city on the Snake. A visit was paid Wednesday afternoon to this and enerplant, and the air of activity gy that was apparent indicated that business is meant. Mr. A. E. Keables, the mining expert, explained their manner of work, which is just about as follows: The water is pumped from the THE FAMOUS river by two large pumps. Bartlett of the American Zinc Lead company, at Canyon City, Colo., sends to the Engineering and Mining Journal a communication on the treatment of zinc lead ores that will be of interest to the producers of such ores in this region. He says: I notice a great deal of attention is now being paid to the treatment of the Broken Hill zincy ores by our English friends. It appears from all that I can learn that the problem with them has and assumed gigantic proportions, lately several companies have been formed for the express purpose of handling the zincy ores of the Broken Hill mines. Meantime here in Colorado similar ores are being treated daily without fuss or feathers. From samples which the writer has had, the ore, which is most abundant, carries about 20 to 25 ounces silver, 15 to 25 per cent lead, 25 to 35 per cent zinc. This is a grade of ore which I should be very glad to get hold of in which my comthis country, and one Zinz-Leacomd pany (the American pany) would buy freely in fact, any smelter in Colorado would pay fair of prices for such ore. As an example the prices paid for similar ore, I quote from our purchase books a lot just in from a Leadville mine: nothing Zinc, 26.8 per cent allowed for 18 30c, or.$ 5.40 allowed for cent, Lead, per 13.78 Silver, 3 Feet to 2000 Feet Zinc-Lea- Salt Lake City!
