The Chicago & Mercur, located west of the Sunshine, has opened up a body ore near the surface. of fine-looki- ng Juab County. TINTIC DISTRICT. Tintic Miner: Shipments from the district for the past week are reported as follows: From the Bullion-Bec- k 25 carloads ore; from the Bullion-Bec- k mine, mill, 10 carloads concentrates; 12 carfrom the Centennial-Eurekloads ore; from the Gemini, 9 carloads ore; from the Mammoth mine, 5 carloads ore; from the Mammoth mill, 11 carlods concentrates; from the Carrisa, 3 carloads ore; from the Sioux mine, 3 carloads ore; from the Sioux mill, 5 carloads concentrates, 4 bars bullion; from the Spy, 1 carload ore; from the Dragon Iron mine, 2 carloads ore daily. Work was started on the Paxman Tuesday, and the shaft is now being fixed up, ladders repaired, etc. Mining will be commenced in a few days, with two shifts. The Paxman company now' has ample means for prosecuting the vigorous development of their fine property, and we are advised that there will be no cessation of operations until they have thoroughly proved it. J. G. Marx has just returned from a weeks trip in the south and reports that he finds the Black Dragon looking nicely. Ore was struck this week in the face of the tunnel and they are now getting the property in shape for shipments. Four "Aces people are jubilant over this weeks developments in that property. The ore vein on Wednesday widened out to over twice its former thickness, and has also improved in quality. Four Aces will soon be on the shipping list. Eureka Democrat: One of the most important strikes that has been made in the district for some time is reported in the drift from the 800 level at the Mammoth. The large ore body said to exist there, and from w'hich one shipment has been made, runs very high in gold and silver, and from its general characteristics is no doubt separate and distinct from the great Mammoth vein. Owing to the very conservative views of the management, no definite information is obtainable, but sufficient is knowrn to warrant the statement that the Mammoth mine has made a great strike of ore that is in all respects similar to the great upper stopes that had so much to do with making this property famous. The northeast drift in the Grand Central has been discontinued for the present and the main shaft is being carried down from the 300 and will continue to the 700 level, when two machines will be put to work and a drift run to the vein, which it is expected will be reached in less than 1000 feet. It is the purpose of the management to open this property in a thorough and systematic manner, and the wrork to this end is being rapidly advanced. On Monday the Gemini loaded 200 tons of select ore for market, running out a train of seven cars from beneath their ore bins. AVe believe this will be a feature of the Gemini in the future. The wMnze being sunk from the 400 level in the Emerald continues in very promising ground, and the quartz is of a character that leaves littlle room for doubt of the near presence of permanent ore bodies. The Black Dragon has a force of ten men now' employed and wrork is being actively pushed. A shipment is now being prepared and wTill be marketed in a few days. The Godiva is showing larger and richer with every additional shift In depth. The Godiva will be a great a, Tooele County. CAMP FLOYD DISTRICT. Mercur Mercury. Silas Wilcox came over from Peepstone yesterday with several samples of ore showing quantities of cinnabar. The rock came from a group of claims about a mile and a half north of Cedar Fort, which is operated by a company composed of Messrs. Romney, Rodeback and others, and the discovery was made at a depth of fifty feet. We do not know what values the ore carries, but Mr. Wilcox states that it is the rumor at Cedar Fort that it assays about $60. The company have adopted a reticent policy, however, and no definite details are obtainable. The discovery will add new vim and hope to the people who are working in that section, and it is probable that the strike foreshadows the development of another Mercur mine. Manager Davis of the Henrietta company reports that he is drifting on the vein from the bottom of the sixty-foshaft. The vein is four or five feet wide, and carries fair values, and looks so lively that the operators feel confident that drifting will develop a body of pay ore. The company have ample capital for the thorough development of the ground, and work will be continued until the ground is thoroughly ot explored. The Sacramento property is flourishing. The mill is running nicely, and saving a large per cent of the gold. In the mine material is being developed which will do to mill, which previously has carried small value. A force is at work developing the property. All the ore has previously been found on the west dip, but this week a force was put on to develop the ore on its east dip. The Sacramento is a great property. Although the camp is quiet, more work than ever is being done in the development of prospects, and a number of these are now just at a point where they are on the verge of being transformed from prospects to mines. Excitements do not make mines, nor boomers nor single-blankcapitalists; it takes work, and that is the basis on which this camp is now working. We do not fear for the results. Good values are reported from the Contest lode, in the lower part of the et camp. Sunshine Sun: A mill for the Badger is one of the early probabilities. The Mollie Gibson is showing up finely. The leasers deserve to strike $20 gold-piecfor their pluck . A strike was made on the Five-Mi- le Pass companys property last week, which shows up well. AVork on the Red Cloud is going right along, and the showing is still improving. The Sunlight people are so well satisfied with the showing on their property that they have purchased a twenty horse-powgasoline engine, which will be put to wrork as soon as it arrives. The Searchlight people will put in a twenty horse-powengine and hoist on their property at once. Work is still being vigorously prosecuted on the Rawlins-Critchlogroup at Five-Mil- e Pass, and there is unusual activity on all claims in that vicinity. mine. Park Record: Another break occurred to the Anchor air compressor AAednes-da- y morning, and it was of such a serious nature that the entire force had to be laid off until the damage could be repaired. As a result of the stoppage of work at the mine the concentrator had to be shut down Thursday morning, and the big w'orks are now silent as the tomb. It is thought the compressor will be ready for business and wrork resumed again tomorrow morning. This is the first entire shut down that has occurred at the Anchor mine since the resumption of work after the big slump. The Bogan companys big duplex piston pressure pump arrived Thursday, wras taken to the mine yesterday and is nowr being placed in position, and it is thought that it will be in active opera- tion by tomorrow' evening or Monday The pump was purchased morning. C. L. Trent of Salt Lake, and through a carries guarantee of being able to raise water 750 vertical feet. If it fails to do that the company agrees to take the pump back, pay freight on it both ways and forfeit $500. Sinking will be resumed just as soon as the shaft is clear of water, which will not be very long after the pump is in operation. AVork was resumed at the Creole mine Monday afternoon under the direction of Foreman Rhoden, a miner of considerable experience both in Utah and other States. After devoting several days to cleaning up and putting the property in shape sinking in the shaft was begun and is now going forward rapidly. The Creole will probably put in a gas hoisting engine in the near future. Following are the ore shipments from |
