The local stock market was a shade less active during" the week, but there has been a good volume of business at strong and advancing prices. A greater amount of local money is now seeking investment than for some time past and the number of outside orders received indicates continued interest in Utah stocks. The steady appreciation in values since the exchange was established is calling attention to the opportunities presented, and has stimulated a keener interest on the part of speculators and investors. Ajax has remained steady at previous figures. One hundred shares were sold upon the New York Consolidated Exchange at $1.10, Lake quotations. an advance over Salt There are buyers for Anchor, but not at the price at which it is held. Alli- ance and Annie were quiet. Bullion-Bec- k sold during the week at $6.75. The bids for Brick Consolidated are still far below the selling price. In view of the fine condition of this property the owners seem justified in holding out for a good price. Small blocks of Centennial-Eurek- a were sold at $75 by people who purchased a few. months ago at $60, and were willing to take profits. Some new ore bodies are said1 to have recently been uncovered, and if the mine were worked at anything like its capacity it is believed it could pay dividends of $5 per share for an indefinite period. Daly was stronger and a further advance is probable, as it is authorita-tivel- y announced that the resumption of dividends will occur next month, with a quarterly payment of 25 cents Por share. Daly-We- st sold in small There is some demand for Horn Silver, but nothing available. Mammoth was the center of attraction and sold above $3 during the week. There seems to be a settled conviction that dividend payments will be resumed within a few months. The upward movement of the stock, however, is likely to be checked by free offerings should it go much higher. A sensational report is received from the mine concerning the discovery of the Betsy chute on the 800 level. This chute was lost on the 400 level, at which point it produced gold ore of so high a grade that it is said the miners were required to change their clothing when they went off shift, to guard against theft. The discovery of this ore body on the 800 greatly increases the resources of the mine, as it is said to carry as high as 100 ounces in gold, although the average value is much less. There was less activity in Mercur, the recent offerings having been taken. The stock is steadily advancing, and none can now be had at $7, it having gained $1 within two weeks. Ore is now being shipped from the new workings opened up on the Mattie claim, the first three carloads showing an average of $17 per ton. This is better ore by several dollars than the company has been milling. The mill is now handling 200 tons per day, and the mine could supply 1000 tons daily. Ontario was slow, the bids being unchanged, with no offerings. No attempt is being made to explore the strike on the 1501) level, owing to the heavy flow of water, which is expected to soon subside. put in operation and shipments of Richmond-Anacond- high-grad- e a ore commenced. continues in strong demand, those who recently purchased control being willing to increase their holdings. Tetro was quiet, although conditions at the mine continue to improve. It is rumored that the company is taking in adjoining property. The unlisted stocks closed as follows: Silver King continues to advance, a sale having been made at $16.60.
