Secretary of the. Interior Oscar L. Chapman today announced publication of. the re. port. The study compares 1939, 1947, and estimated 1965 energy consumption and supply patterns. Assumptions and methods employed are explained in detail, accompanied by charts 'and tables. One of the major assumptions is a gross national product in 1965 of $390,000,-000,00- 0 (in 1947 dollars), 63 cent above the 1947 level. per The estimates for- - 1965 indicate the following increases in energy supplies required for the three , chief energy functions: an increase of almost 40 per cent for, heat (domestic, commercial and industrial), to which the growth of the chemical industry contributes substantially; no increase in energy supplies for motion, because larger transportation needs are offset by increased fuel efficiency; and an increase of 60 per cent in fuels for electric and stationary direct drive power, resulting from a 140 per cent increase in kilowatt hour needs. ' The contribution of basic energy resources to total energy needs are broken down on the basis of four possible developments in energy supply patterns. . .
