Show Moy 16, 1947 The Western Mineral Survey, Solt Lake City, Utah High Grade Ore Reported Struck in Goldfield Area Future Seen For Metaline Mining Wash.Area The widely-circulat- . Met-li- ne SPOKANE,. northdistrict in mining eastern Washington has for a number of years been an important producer of lead and zinc, zinc predominating. The important properties in this district under extensive development programs have exposed vast ore bodies estimattd to run into the millions of tons. Pend Oreille Mines & Metals Co., the pioneer and daddy of them all, is no doubt the outstanding property in the district It is exceptionally equipped .with all the up to date necessary mining facilities, including a power plant. Production to date is of a 750 ton capacity but management plans call for an increase to 2000 tons daily. Its ore bodies are of such proportion to allow a long period of operation at this increased rate. No definite date has been set upon the delivery of additional mill equipment Pend Oreille shares are called daily on the Spokane Stock Exchange and are listed on the Vancouver and Toronto mining exchanges. - Hailey Mine Outlines Activity over-optimis- ed m, at blocking out the area. Two significant facts have been definitely established: (1) That .the discovery is a new ore deposit which has never been b e en worked; (2) that although the formation in which the ore occurs is the same as that found in the old boom days, the ore itself is different in that it does not pan, not being free gold. In the smelter, bubbles of pure gold come to light, the spokesman said. The discovery was made during the course of a crosscut at the 358 ft. level around 1800 feet from the main Florence shaft Stringers of gold ore, varying in diameter from a fraction of an inch to several inches, began to occur in increasing quantities as the crosscutting progressed. . In view of the fact that Goldfield high grade has usually been found at high levels mostly above 500 ft it is likely that the ore will increase in value when raises are made. Must Complete Crosscut Operations at present are be- -' ing concentrated on the crosscut directed toward an old shaft 100 ft. ahead. This is .being completed in order to assure adequate ventilation for. extensive' operations.. Since progress is restricted to 10 ft a day, it will be 10 days until this crosscut can be finished. Within . two weeks, therefore, Newmont will be in a position to throw its efforts into the new discovery. . Should the deposit prove as massive as some mining men believe,, it will unquestionably precipitate a boom . here whose proportions cannot even On the other be estimated. hand, the possibility that the' deposit may suddenly ..shut off should not be discounted, although it is not believed likely. Indications are that Newmont is operating in a highly zone, and that further valuable discoveries may be. in . - . HAILEY, Ida. The Garfield Mining Co., its main operations near here, will soon go into year-arou- nd production, L. F. Heagle, president, stated. The company operated eight months last year, the ore shipped netting the company $18.40 a ton, with principal values in gold and silver. Mr. Heagle also said that the 'company planned to operateBro-its Westlake property and the ken Hill group in the Estes Mountain district. The latter property jis under the supervi' sion of Arthur' Lakes, mining deengineer, .who has helped Britin several producers velop ish Columbia and the Coeur . dAlene district An official of the Newmont Mining Corp. this week conrumors that high grade gold ore has firmed been discovered at the Florence mine in Goldfield. He advised however, pointing out that the deposit against as well as its average values have yet to be determined. He conceded that the find is very encouraging and that assays running as higi as $1200 from samples taken from the new strike have been made. It will be two weeks at least until work can be started aimed . . . - - Mining Meet Plans E. McL. Tittmann, general manager of the El Paso Smelting Works, has been appointed chairman of the El Paso mining, committee. This committee will sponsor the 1947 International Mining Days' celebration , and make arrangements for the American Mining Congress, Western Division, convention, which opens Oct 27 and continues through Oct 29, with registration on Oct 26. The formation in which the ore is carried is said to be' pre. dominately andecite, with tellurium and bismuth stringers present A decile is an eruptive grayish rock similar to trachyte, consisting essentially of pliagio-cla- se feldspar. Tellurium is defined chemically as a rare element analogous to sulphur and selenium, occasionally native as a crystalline metallic substance of luster (sp. gr. 6.27), but usually combined with metals, such as silver and gold' in sylvan ite. First Confirmed Rumor Newmont took over control of the Florence mine from, the Deep Mines Co. last fall, and has been carrying on exploratory and development work ever since. Although rumors concerning fabulous strikes have cropped up at regular intervals, this is the first time that company officials have verified any of them. The rumor of the new strike swept over the state and to mining circles around the country, even before the discovery.. had been officially Verified. It appeared that the farther it traveled, the richer the strike became. Tonopah was agog all week with speculation, as the rumor mongers ran the value of the ore up to several thousand, dollars a ton. Other reports had Goldfield besieged by mining prospectors, with hundreds of cars in town. tin-wh- ite Keep Posted on Mining and Oil Developments . - BeEable and DotaOod Information on curronl activity el Minn and OS Fields. Farmers ' along the. river vigorously opposed granting the lease on their contention that the operations would , increase the silt and sand moving downstream into the irrigation canals. Among the new provisions, establishing an innovation in state river bed leases, are these provisions: 1. Stock Shoots Upward The effect of news of the strike on the San Francisco exchange was electrifying. .. Deep Mines stock, which has been running around 16 bid and 18 asked for several weeks, jumped to 36 and 38 by Thursday morning. Red Hills Florence stock also moved ahead to 17 bid Thursday. Other nearby mining stock also felt the impetus of the news, with the reorganized Silver King bid to going abruptly, from 20c. Goldfield Consolidated stood at 80c and $1, with . indications that further advances were in store. In charge of Newmonts Goldfield operations is Elmer Burt, veteran mining man of this area. Best indication of the possible scope of the discovery was in Mr, Burts demeanor. A pessimist, Mr. Burt has been smiling broadly- of late. And so, too, have other citizens of Goldfield. Goldfield . Many, properties, reputed to hold rich gold values, are being rehabilitated after long and costly inactivity. Modem mining equipment and building materials, and various facilities associated with the mining industry are almost daily being ghip- here by rail or truck. Sd inworkers are filtering into this district and the whole area is taking, on renewed life reminiscent of , the .halcyon "days when even just a handful of properties in the. heart of this mineralized area produced well over $100 million. The gold bullion production is a matter of federal government record. Opportunity The element and even the chronic pessimists to be found in every, community believe that theres untold wealth in the developed ore bodies awaiting the advent of capital, machinery, labor and technicians. ' Winnemucca has been the mec-c- a for many visitors these past few weeks and rumors are heard regarding various properties in general and the. Winnemucca Mountain Mines Go. activities in particular. This company is operating a group, of patented claims just north of and within easy sight of the city limits, which, under the 'able direction of Gus Rogers, has been making rapid and highly gratifying progress; .in the driving 'of . its main transportation tunnel which is being put through the mountain so as to permit the economical opening of ore bodies of the previously profitable Rex a 11 mine and also facilitate the hauling of some 50,000 tons of milling ore already on the dump. The culmination of this one principal activity is of vital importance, as it is expected to place what is now a big prospect in its stage in the producing . class. To Drive Tunnel The thing that is creating all the talk is the fact that this tunnel' Is expected to cut a large ore body, estimated by core drilling to be 80 feet in width, that from the report of three mining engineers should open up a profitable pay streak. This is due principally to the fact that this, the first of five known sizable veins, comprises the main shoot or chimney directly down a few, hundred feet from the great iron cap or gossan atop Winnemucca Mountain. . A few years ago one of the big smelter companies of Salt Lake City obtained the right to mine and ship a number of tons of Iron pyrites for fluxing purposes from this large outcrop, and not only; got the iron, but is said to have netted an unexpected $75,-00- 0from gold recovered in the base metal, residue. . Geologists, engineers and experienced mining men who have examined the properties of. this company are said to have predicted that this gold enrichment that was 'discovered by the smelter company activity ' exists at the present time in that portion of- the shoot as yet undeveloped and should, as the result of erosion and yravity, prove even higher grade in assaying and more profitable in tonnage than the surprising windfall that dropped into the lap of the purchaser of that few tons of eroded iron ore. To Hold Meeting the highly So, combining thought of Rexall Mine, discovered back in 1907 by a well-knoprospector. Jack Davis, which, with by a very modest development, made among a number of other shipments one that is said to have netted exactly $86,000.86 smelter returns for one ton of ore. The annual meeting of the corporation for the election of officers and directors and to receive the report of the secretary and treasurer, Gits Rogers,' is scheduled to be held, here on May 12. One of the proposals to come up for discussion will be the installation of a selective concentration mill, for which an 80-asite has been purchased adjacent to town. Another project on the agenda is the plan to. list the companys stock on the Salt Lake Mining Exchange for active trading. , . 1M" Spindol Prtu 34 Colling Or WaU Fan M 80M BTU Oil FarnacM and Larger (How) DOUGLAS FIH IN CAH LOAD LOTS s4s end Bough And Many Other Items To Bo Had.
