Under suspension of the rules, SB 41 was lifted to the head of. the second reading-calendaand passed to third reading, but as SB 42 was following suit a point was raised by Sen. J. Arthur Bailey Lake) as to whether employes of mine lessees were sufficiently protected under the wording in the bill and a motion was made and passed, to have the bill retain its place on the calendar until the point could be carefully studied. No bills dealing directly with mining had come into the Utah House by the middle of the week. . r (D-Sa- lt Senate Bills 89 (Miller) and 93 (revenue and taxation commit tee) both proposing changes in the base for taxing metal mines, both were in the hands of committees and had not been reported out at press time. . Senator Millers bill, discussed in last weeks Western Mineral Survey, is being studied by the mining and smelting committee and is expected to come out without recommendation or with an unfavorable report, but SB 93 (extending the base for assessment from one to three years) is in the hands of the committee of its origin and should be reported favorably. : 160 m. i aFurnished by Edward L. Burton and Company, Feb. 4, 1943, South Main Street, Salt Lake City, .Utah. Orderly Rise In Prices Power Output Inevitable, Says Brown Shows Increase Prentiss M. Brown, head . of the Office of Price Administration, told a press conference on Jan. 20 that a slow, orderly rise In prices is inevitable under present conditions. However, he believes that the upward trend in the general price level can be held to a rate of about one-haof 1 per cent a month. Higher wages and Increased costs ot production will continue to influence the price structure. He declined to discuss wage increases, because such matters were for the War Labor Board to decide, Mr. Brown stated he Is a lawyer and not an economist' Mr. Brown was sworn in as head of OPA by Associate Justice Douglas of the Supreme Court on Jan. 20. .
