Show DAILY UTAH JOURNAL. 8TATE SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 1904. THE BAPTISTS. The Home Circle j THE THREE DEAREST for boring market or are more useful home consumption? Can we not wait for the limbs to grow and the leaves to form and the buds to unfold In slow and perfect loveliness, without restless thrusting of our fingers In the heart of the buds to hasten their development? Shall not the children of men enjoy the sunshine, the soft air, the long daya of silent growth that seem, days of idleness to the careless observer? Quiet communion with nature, wild romps with the summer winds, the glory of gay mornings, the radiance of eventide, the mysterious quiet of the sustenance of earth-see- king roots, the refreshment of heaven-aspirin- g hearts, are the rightful heritage of the children of men. Without haste and without rest nature fares onward in reverential gladness. The unnecessary effort, the of frailest of the and faith courage nature's flowers are worthy of the Imitation of man. The sun shines and the fragile anemone pushes up with the gallant boldness of a soldier. Darkness covers the earth and cruel winds laah the trees, but the delicate flower is true to itself, and bowing itself to the storm of life with serenity and meekness and reaching out to possess every stray sunbeam of Joyful courage. Is It not the true philosophy of life to enjoy what we have? Tou cannot gather figs off thistles, nor can you make an orchard bear more or different fruit than It pos nesses when the autumn has come. Let us help the young to reach a full development and let us learn to enjoy the fruits that the men and women about us yield. A knotty apple is better than none, and sometimes a rusty, gnarled peach haa a finer flavor than a plump, soft rosy beauty. Nature teaches unceasing effort, but she teaches also contentment and peace. Impatience Is useless; it alienates and retarda Discontent Is fatal; It kills the soft new growth. Without regret and without remorse, nature lets the "dead past bury Its dead. Remorse for the Irrevocable Is waste of time, regret for mistakes is useless. WORDS. There are three words that sweetly blend. on the heart are craven; A precious, soothing balm they lend They're mother, home and heaven! That They twine a wreath of beauteous flowers. Which placed on memory's urn, Will e'en the longest gloomiest hours To golden sunlight turn! They form a chain whose every link Is free from base alloy; A stream where whosoever drinks Will find refreshing Joy! They build an altar where each day Loves offering Is renewed; And peace Illumes with genial ray Lire's darkened solitude. If from our side the first has fled. And home be but a name, Lets strive the narrow path to tread, That we the last may gain! Home ought to be the place on earth In which to be frank and honest. If we are not candid with ourselves and with our families around the family hearth. It cannot be expected that we will be so elsewhere. "Before you arise In the morning, repeat within the secret chamber of your soul these words: Tn the name of the infinite Spirit, I declare that I shall always think peacefully, apeak peacefully, and act peacefully. Before you go to sleep at night repeat the following: 1 love everybody, and ask everybody to love me. Forgive everybody for what they might have done against me, and aak everybody to forgive me for what I might have done against them.' " Is It not highly amusing, If not provocative of wrath, to hear a man complain of hla home being cheerless when he adds nothing to Its happiness? A man la greatly responsible for the osone of his home. The day to the wife may have been one of un usual care and hard work, but If the husband comes In cheerful from the field of his work outside, the weariness and careworn look will disappear from the wife's face. A few sharp words we can always excuse, for we always attribute them to overtaxed nerves, but we can find no plausible excuse for aullenness on the part of the husband. A touch of kindness In this busy rush, A proffered hand to help us fight the crush, A cheerful word thnt soothes a heavy heart. Have you of these small things sumed your part? as- Is not a man child better than young tree and mature man more to be considered than a fruit laden orchard? And yet with what Impa tlence we follow the slow develop' ment of the child, and how we worry over the product of the man! Can we not let nature teach us dignity and and common sense. If our children are peach trees la It not madness to try to develop them into apple trees because, forsooth, apples bring more thnn peaches In the neigh A GOODLY HERITAGE. 'Nature In her silent beautiful way teaches many lessons. She does not force a moral upon us. We may drink In her lowliness and take or leave the lesson as we please. A man must have something of the child in hls heart to feel the splendor of the horlson, the magnificence of the stars, the mystery of the woods, the Joyous dignity of fertile siyillt meadows; and having the child's heart to feel, he will have the child's faith to see, and whatever hls sorrow',1 nature shall heal it, whatever hls perplexity nature shall solve It Men have set their mark upon the woods and upon the hills. They have divided the lands and have said to the world, "This farm Is mine;" "the babbling brook and the beach-coverhillside belongs to your neighbor, but the first child of nature who chances that way without a penny In hls pock' et may ha all the beauty and peace of this lovely landscape for the look' Ing. Nature teaches us to live our own lives, to be ourselves. The petty cares of life hurry us away from the beet thnt Is within us. We cannot stop to think the noble thoughts. Nature says, "AH these months I waited in serenity for the springtime. With Dsclars 1 of The following resolution was Introduced and adopted at the afternoon session of the Utah Baptists' convention in Balt Lake City Thursday: "Resolved, That we view with great satisfaction the announcement that a political party Is to be organised looking toward the emancipation of Utah from the hierarchy of the Mormon church. The separation of church and state Is one of the cardinal principles of the Baptist faith, a principle that was first Inculcated Into American life by the staunch Baptist, Roger Williams. In so far as this new party shall serve the ends of rlghtousness in our state, and In so far a It shall be free from political greed and corruption, we do most earnestly assert our belief In the Americanism of this old Baptist principle and assure them of our hearty sympathy and Get Our Free Book Flnt - ji m You cant afford to until ran ca you buy know all about a Monarch. Never carry your money In a handbag unless you can well afford to lose lb A horseshoe over the door la good so far aa It goes, but It Is not a good substitute for carelessness. ' One thousand dollars Is regarded by many as a good deal of money, but I would give It to get back the $1,000 that I lost These were some of the maxims enunciated today by Miss G. St Clair at her home, 13 East Thirteenth street while explaining to a reporter how she lost $6,000 from her handbag, for which she advertised $1,000 reward. Miss St. Clair says she Is not greatly. disturbed over the loss. "I have an Income of $50,000 a year," she said, "and give away $6,000 a year In charity. But even so, I cannot Just say that I am not rather grieved to have lost the money. "If I had broken a leg, she said, that would have been bad luck. But to loe iponey thats not so bad.
