Show DAILY UTAH 6 STATE JOURNAL, MONDAY, MAY 23. 1004. BIG STIMULUS TO GOLDFIELD LANE DEAL CAUSES GREAT TIVITY. AC- More Men Are Being Put to Work in the Verioue Minee and Stock is Advancing. The latest Issue of the Tonopah Sun gives an Interesting resume of the developments and operations under way at Goldfleld. the wonderful Nevada camp which Is now the center of mining Interest. It says: The purchase last week of Frank Ish's two claims by Charles D. Lane of San Francisco and Nome has had a wonderfully stimulating elfect on mining In that vicinity. Especially la this true since It became known that Lane's workmen were to start development without a moment's delay. A number of parties holding property at DIamondfleld and between there and Columbia mountain have Increased their working forces and are preparing to acelerate their work In every particular. Contracts for new work are being let and the work la starting without hesitation. Large quantities of supplies are being purchased at the leading stores of Goldfleld and some good sited orders have been forwarded to Tonopah. Teams are taking largely increased shipments to the new scenes of activity. The big deal has served to rapidly advance the price of stock in the various mining properties of the whole district and to make prices more stable in the real estate of Diamond-fiel- d as well as firmer here. In every It way may be viewed the Lane deal Is the biggest thing that has yet happened for the present and future greatness of the Goldfleld district It is now believed that the period of quietness that has pervaded business In Goldfleld is truly at an end and that the town will boom from this time forward. A large number of the most promising properties between Goldfleld and DIamondfleld have been .organised and stocked under the name of the Jumbo and Vernal Extension Mining comThe claims Included are the pany. North Extension of the Jumbo; North Extension of the St. Ives, where the recent big strike was made; East Ex- tension of the Red Top, at the foot of Colombia mountain; Black Butte No. 1 and Black Butte fraction, adjoining the property purchased last week for (300,000 by Charles D. Lane; Three Friends and Three Friends fraction ; Gold Coin and Saddle Rock, the McManus property and a con- tlnuatlon of the ledge of the Black Butte No. 1. The property belonged principally to R. A. Martin, J. T. Jones and C. B. It has been organised by Higgins. H. & Lind, who Is secretary and gen- -' eral manager of the new company. Key Pittman, of Tonopah, has been chosen president The company Is capitalised at $1,250,000, with shares at par value Endorses Beer as Opposed to Patent Medicines. JUj Of course, a pure, wholesome beer is meant that is Budweisei Mr. Edward Bok, editor of The Ladies Home Journal, in a page article in the May issue gives a list of 36 medicines with official analysis asserting them to contain 12 to 47 per cent, of Alcohol I At And he adds in black type: In connection with this list, think of beer, which contains only from two to five per cent, of alcohol, while some of these bitters' contain ten times as much, making them stronger than whisky, far stronger than sherry or port, with claret and champagne way behind." Mr. Bok continues: A mother who would hold up her hands in holy horror at the thought of her child drinking a glass of beer, which contains from two to five per cent, of alcohol, gives to that child with her own hands a patent medicine that contains from seventeen to lorty-fou- r per cent..of alcohol." 11 Budweiser contains only 3 per cent, of alcohol. It is better than pure water because of the nour- ishing qualities of malt and the tonic properties be-tw- en of $1 It j of hops. Budweiser the purpose of the management to push development on the most favorable localities of the various properties and to offer a limited amount of treasury stock for the purpose of obtaining the necessary funds. Since all the property is so admirably situated it is thought the stock will be much sought after. The Shields and Parham lease of 300 feet of ground on the Jumbo claim to Messrs. Richards has been sub-land Cowing of the State Bank and Trust company. E. R. Shields, the Tonopah merchant who Is one of the lessees, was here last Thursday and after viewing the property and showings thereof said he was very sorry that business arrangements had caused him to sub-lthe property. The Jumbo is holding up Its values to those receltly struck, producing a large amount of ore that will pay to ship under the existing heavy freight rates. On DIamondfleld Jack's Daisy No. S, recently under bond to J. P. Har-vthe lessees made a strike that has caused the Wildest excitement about Goldfield and DIamondfleld. What the actual assay values are cannot be learned but if the hornlngs Indicate anything, another bonanza has been added to the Goldfleld district Three shifts employing fourteen or fifteen men, have been at work on Ish's Black Butte since Lane's option went into effect with the result that over eighty feet otflrlfts and crosscuts have been run, in less than a week. So far as can be ascertained, uniform richness has been maintained in a great por tlon of these workings, and in some Instances sensational values have been encountered. Martin, one of the lessees on the St. Ives claim Is getting Into a less broken formation, and quarts encountered carries fair values a probable average of close to $60 per ton. As far as can is a family beverage; its use promotes the cause of true temperance it guards the safety of health and home. Budweiser is m each. Weak, sickly people often remark, "If I could only get something that would nourish me and give me, strength," they do not know why, but the food they 'eat is of no benefit to them, they gain no flesh and feel no stronger. The fact Is the stomach is too weak to perform Its work, and the little appetite they once had Is soon gone. The blood becomes more thin and watery, bringing on faint sick spells with loss of memory and ambition. There is a remedy for all this that acts In the right way. It Is called Dr. Gunn's Blood and Nerve Tgnlc, and Is sold by all druggists for 75c. per box, or I boxes for $3. It turns the food you eat Into rich, red blood, making flesh and strength, creating an appetite because the system demands sustenance. For sale by Wallace Drug company, Ogden. Utah. Sixth Ship to 'Bear the cNjime The launching of the great new battleship Virginia at Newport News, says the Richmond calls to mind the history of other vessels that have borne the proud name of the Old Dominion. There were five of these vessels two of the Confederate navy and three of the United States navy. The present Virginia Is, therefore, the sixth of her name the best and the greatest. Information gathered by Admiral Harry Webster of this city from official records shows that the first Virginia was a ship of twenty-eigguns, built In Maryland in 1776. After having been run aground by a British steamer It was captured In Chesapeake bay In 177$. The only members of the ship to escape capture were the captain and ten men. A schooner of fourteen guns, built In Norfolk, In 1796, was the second Virginia that appeared upon the waves. She was sold In 1801, having remained In the naval list but three years. Her crew, all told, numbered 187 men. The history of the third Virginia Is coincident with the period leading up Tlmes-Dlspatc- ht h; to the Civil war, and is peculiar In that the name of the vessel, at the last moment, and before she touched the water, was changed. This third Virginia was a line battleship, comthe monly known as a 74," from number of guns she was designed to carry. Her battery, as a matter of fact, however, consisted of not leas than 84 guns. Her crew numbered 820, and her tonnage was 2,633. She was laid down In the Boston navy yard In 1818, but was still unfinished at the beginning of the Civil war. On account of the feeling in those strenuous days, when the vessel was finally launched to make way for a modern ship on the same stocks, her name was changed to Vermont, and under that nnme she still Is afloat, although she performed little active service, being of obsolete type. All three of the vessels mentioned were of the United 8tates navy. In an article published some time ago by John W. II. Porter, on the Confederate navy, which article was compiled from notes and records left by John L. rorter, the distinguished . chief constructor of the Confederate states navy, there Is given the following but comprehensive history of the two Confederate Virginias: ' Virginia Ironclad, formerly U. S. 8. Merrimac, ten guns, seised by the Confederates at Gosport navy yard, 1861, and converted into an Ironclad; burned by her captain at the evacuation of Norfolk, 1863. Virginia Ironclad, four guns, built at Richmond In 1864, and burned by the Confederates at the evacuation of that city In April, 1865. The history of the several vessels Is very scant and the above Information constitutes the whole of the authoritative records upon the subject. Working Night and Day.
