ANOTHER OIL 8YNDICATE. Through 'Ben T. Lloyd of Salt Lake representative, another formidable Pittsburg crowd haa Just acquired 7,000 acres of territory in the oil and gas fields out of Farmington and into which the drills will begin to drop as soon as negotiations are concluded and the formal conveyance of the area is made. The sections embraced within the deal are north of. those that by the Guffey & Galey were acquired syndicate, and sirable as are superficially are as deany in the basin. The transaction, in the event the new crowd shall neglect to purchase outright, said Mr. Lloyd, will Involve over Should the crowd decide to 1(0,000. organise a company, however, and begin boring, it will be permitted to jay a percentage of the consideration in cash and the remainder In the hares of the company, as the vendors, aid Mr. Lloyd, have no doubt as to the merits of the ground. The deal will be perfected on one of these propositions In the next few hours, as the oil crowd is eager to. get up its rigging and begin active boring. -- IN IDAHO CAMP8. James J. Burke, the mehanlcnl enSalt Lake who has been consulting with Boise mining men on the equipment of properties In that state, has returned from the north very much pleased with the result of his observations and predicting greater actlvitv, with more permanent results, than at any period in the history of the state. In Idaho City, once the arena for most active operations, a (Teat deal of Interest is manifested. Old mines are being reopened, new machinery is taking the place of long neglected plants, and several mills Promise to start up again this season. He also reports the various Interests at Pearl and Neal giving good account of themselves, while Thunder mountain promises to speak out In tones that must carry conviction, with the new mills for which, it is said, orders bnve been Mr. placed, In operation. Burke will visit the north again In a short time. gineer of MINERAL SOAP IN NEVADA. Il is estimated that the gold produc-to- n of the Kulgooriie, West Australia, gold field will this year suriass Should this distrh-- t maintain its past rate of increase. Australia may be expected in a few years to show an annual output of gold exceeding the United States and South Africa. Kalgoorlie is in a most isolated country, being 340 miles inland, and though wonderfully blessed with gold is woefully lacking in fuel and water. A pipe line some some fifty miles long conveys water for the district's use and the country is almost barren of timber. Tet some of the world's greatest gold mines have been opened at Kalgoorlie and brought to most profitable developemnt, though in most instances at enormous cost, due to lack of water and fuel, and mainly in mistakes in metallurgy of the ores. Doubtless Kalgoorlie is entitled to the credit, if it be any, of having wasted more money in ore treatment than any other mining district on earth, and although hundreds of thousands of dollars have been wasted to date, the present system of treating ores is nowhere near perfection. An Indication of the extreme richness Is instanced by the fact that there are eight mines whose total production of gold exceeds $34,000,000 and of which sum more than 50 per cent is profit These mines produce 85,000 tons of ore monthly and the average value of this enormous block of ore is $31.50 per ton, a most remarkable showing, and one hardly surpassed in any other mining district in the world. Some of the mines have attained considerable depth, and a very good feature is that ore does not the run of high-grad- e diminish with depth. The great Boulder mine has now reached a depth of 1,800 feet and the Golden Horseshoe 1,300 feet, while others have 'almost touched the thousand mark.' A number of these Kalgoorlie mines represent enormous market value, most of the company's shares being listed in London, England. The great Boulder shares number 1,750,000 and have a par value of 50 cents, but are eagerly sought for In the neighborhood of $7 a share. The present share valuations of the Great Boulder mine is therefore in the neighborhood of $14,000,000. The great Flngall mine shares number 350,000, and have a par value of $5. These shares are selliqg at $43 each and represent a valuation for the mine of about $$11,000,000. Of the eight mines mentioned six lie within a square mile. The Great Flngall will have shortly In operation 10i stamps with a monthly output of 14.000 tons with a production of $840,000 and of which will be profit, thus establishas the most profitable gold itself ing mine In the world. A bore hole at Kalgoorlie has reached a depth of 1.975 feet and shows good ore at that depth, the deepest as yet reached In the district Kalgoorlie now boasts of twenty-fiv- e producing mines and the center of a gold field a couple of hundred miles wide and possibly a thousand miles long, that with even a part of this region fully prospected the greatest gold producing camp the world ever knew would be the result five-seven- Mining World. Meanwhile the upier tunnel, In which recent disclosures of ore was made, continues to advance in the quarts, and dismissing altogether the ores of sensational value, said President will Franklin, the rock for 400 feet maintain an average of better than $5 gold per ton. This ledge since the rich ore appeared to stir up the dry bones of the native in January last, has been cross-cfor 65 fret, the rock for that distance maintaining a good average. The company, said President Franklin, appreciates that it is no poor man's undertaking, nor Is there one whose has been enlisted who does not appreciate it. Already as much as $300,000 has been expended in work upon the undertaking, and $300,000 more, says the management will be required to consummate what is In view. Replying to a threat In the United States Investor of Boston, in which it is volunteered that as is generally the case in the Mount Baldy mining district, it will take a long time to develop Log Cabin to a paying basis, the management says it la true that the Annie Laurie owners were out perhaps $350,000 this Including the purchase price before they were in possession of a $5,000,000 proposition, nor does that include the money expended by the original owners.
