In summarizing a conditions in the copper metal market, the Boston Com- merclal says: The situation may be accurately summarised as follows: Two years ago the price of copper declined sharply around 17 cents to 10 cents per pound, and a surplus accumulation of 200,000,000 to 300,000,000 pounds of went from of hands the the copper producers to the consumers and speculators. The copper referred to had been accumulated in an effort to hold the market price at an abnormally high level. The year following the break, 1902, the average selling price of copper was about 12 cents, the fluctuations reaching down to 11 cents and up to 13 cents. This year, 1903, the average selling price promises to be 13 cents. During these two years, therefore, all of the copper produced and from 200,000,000 to 300,000,000 pounds additional, which constituted the surplus, has been consumed. At the present time we have no surplus In the hands of producers, and copper consumers are carrying relatively smaller stocks than at any previous time In the history of the trade. There is, of course, evidence of coming will which business curtailment, nd to reduce the connaturally sumption of copper; but conditions are really the most favorable that could be Imagined. Producers have had 'a most prospersous year and are in a position to. be. Independent and hold the market The steady. Consumers must buy.use of copper has become so popular that business depression will affect it less than almost any other metal that can be named Electrical construction Is receiving wonderful Impetus In all parts of Europe as well as in Asia and South Africa. Germany has been a considerably larger consumer of copper this year on an average 13 cent market than It was last when copper sold at 12 cents. The outlook for a large foreign copper consumption next year is therefore exceedingly bright. On the whole, the copper market Is in a very strong position." , - Headquarters For Christmas Goods Only a few more shopping days until Christmas. Havs you bought your praaanta yet?
