At the close of school, or before, every day it shall be the duty of each teacher to notify the parent or guardian of every pupil who was absent or tardy in attendance. Printed forms of these notices shall be supplied by the county superintendent. 13. Any pupil having been absent or tardy shall be requited to bring a written explanation from parent or guardian. 14. Pupils must leave tlie school premfheg and go directly home after school is closed unleis otherwise permitted by the principal. 15. The following grades are provided for: Kindergarten, beginners, first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, and high school. Each grade below the high school represents one year's work. Departments comprising beginners, first, second, third, and fourth grades shall be known as primary; and fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth, as grammar; those below beginners as kindergarten, and those above the eighth grade as high school. Note. In graded schools the grade should be kept separate and distinct in all classes, as? indicated by the course of study. Whenever a pupil brings visitors to school he shall introduce them to the teacher, who will provide for their accommodation. No little child wiil be permitted to visit the schools except in care of some competent person other than a pupil. 3. Except on the personal or written request of a parent or guardian no pupil shall be allowed to leave school before the time for dismissal. ' 4. Any child coming to school without proper attention being given to cleanliness, whose dollies need repairing, may be sent home to be properly fit1. ted for school. Pupils may he required to recite after school such lessons as have been missed throuch absence or improper preparation. But no pupil shall be detained at noon recess, and if detained at any other recess, be shall bo permitted to go out immediately 5. thereafter. 6. Boisterous behavior, scuffling, whistling or loud talk shall not be allowed in the school buildings; and pupils shall not enter the door of any room, not their own without the consent of the proper teacher. 7. No teacher or pupil shall be permitted to use tobacco, either during school hours or at any other time, on the school grounds. 8. Any pupil who shall, on or around the school premises, use or write any profane or Indecent language, or draw any obBcene picture or representation, shall be suspended, and in aggravated cases he shall be expelled. 9. Any pupil found guilty of defacing or Injuring any school property, shall pay in full for all damages and be liable to suspension. 10. Any pupil affected with a contagious disease, or in coming from a house where such a disease exists shall be excluded from school tin Ml he has obtained permission from the Health Department of the city to return to school. 11. Every di strict school shall be open for the admission, free of charge, of all children living in the district, over six and under eighteen years of age, and of children within tte required age, whose father or mother or guardian is a taxpayer within said district. Every parent, guardian, or other person having control of any child between eigbti and sixteen years of age, shall be required to send such child to a public, district, or private school in the district in which he resides at least twenty werkB in each school year, ten weeks of which shall be consecutive; Provided, that in cities of the first and second clas3 such children shall he required to attend school at least thirty weeks in each Bchool year, ten of which shall be consecutive; Provided, that in each year ?uch parent, guardian or other person having control of any child shall be excused from duty by the School Board of the district or the Board of Education of the city, as the case may be, whenever it is shown to their satisfaction that one of the following reasons exists: 1st. That such child Is taught at home in the branches prescribed by law for the same length of lime as children are required by law to be taught in the district school. 2nd. That surh child has already acquired Hie branches of learning taught in the district schools. 3rd. That such child is in such physical or mental condition (which may be certified by a competent I hysician If required by the board) as to render such attendance inexpedient or impracticable. If no such school is taught the requisite length cf time within two and miles of the residence of such child by the nearest road, such attendance shall not Excuses.
