A sound and perfectly healthy horse has been selected and he has been given injections of beef broth and peptone in which has been mixed diphtheric matter taken from the throat of a child suffering with the disease. These injections will be continued for a period of about six months, the dose being increased daily. At the end of that period the horse will be thoroughly inoculated, that is, hi system will be full ot diphtheric poison and still the horse will be apparently well. The serum will then be taken from the horse and used to inoculate human beings against diphtheria very much as vaccination is practised to prevent small pox. The discovery promises absolute immunity from diphtheria, and the experiments are watched with intense interest by not only the medical faculty, but the world at large. vv C.
