EMPEROR SAVED BY PERUNA. pos.-ie.-- man to keep the blood as pure and normal as possible. Nature, in its Infinite wisdom, has given us a thermometer indicating the state of the blood, which appeals to our reason by giving notice of its impurity. Small eruptions of the skin, to which we scarcely pay any attention, headache, ringing noises in tie ears, lassitude, sleeplessness, are generally a sign that the blood is not in its normal state, but is filled with noxious substances. These symptoms deserve our full attention. If more attention were paid to those symptoms, and steps taken to remove them, then many illnesses from which we suffer would become unknown and the human body would become stronger and healthier. Attention therefore should be paid to those warning signs, and the blood can be purified and poisonous substances removed from it by the use of Dr. August Koenigs Hamburg Drops, discovered more than CO yean ago. A Strange Calculation. Taking the length of the permanent railways on the surface of the globe at nearly sixty thousand geographical miles, with a daily average of ten trains, it is estimated that the total loss suffered by wear and tear each day by the metallic rails of the earth is about six hundred tons. The six Lund red tons are lost in the form of fine powder, and are carried back to the earth in the shape of soluble iron salts. One of the most singular discussions in the field of natural history is that relating to the question, Do. snakes swallow their young as a protection? Some years ago Dr. G. Brown Goode of the Smithsonian Institution collected a large amount of data on the subject and gave the testimony of scores of observers to the effect that they had witnessed the act. Yet the question is in no wise settled, and an English journal at the present time Is offering a prize to any one who will produce a snake with the young in its stomach, or so arrange that a committee of men can observe the act. The writer long ago ac- - r, death-dealin- g riease listen to a short talk upon a most vitally Important subject one which is greatly disturbing the business world You have doubtless heard of the You have probword substitution. ably read that substitution is fraud." Tack that saying firmly in your mind and keep it there. It Is worth something. It Is true almost invariably. You call at a store and ask for an article of a curtain brand or manufacture, one which has been thoroughly advertised for years, and which has earned an excellent reputation. The dealer says here's something just as good for less money." That dealer thereby usually tells a direct falsehood. He knows that the article which he offers you at a lower price is Inferior, but the point is that It yields him a greater profit; hence bis desire to substitute. You may ask if an article Is superior just because it is advertised. Yes, it is, and here's why. The many houses which spend millions of dollars every year in the good publications of the country are managed by men of brains and wide business experience, and these men know only too well that unless an article has merit there is absolutely no business sense in spending good money to advertise it. It docs not pay to advertise any article of general use fur a .short time only. Every advertiser must wait some time before his advertising has created the desired impression and while he is waiting his goods must have time to prove whether or not they are good. If they are good, they stick; if uot, they do not, and if they were not good and did not stick, would this experienced business man continue to spend good money advertising the goods throw good money after bad as it were? Never! He has too much business sense. The average article which you see advertised inonih after month in good publications is Itself good. Buy an advertised article. It is the true safe way. Like all novel or bizarre statements, even this was at first doubted, but was easily demonstrated to the satisfaction of scientific men the world over. In nearly every branch of the animal kingdom there are found peculiar methods of caring for young. Some are taken In the mouth; others are packed upon the back, where they adhere, as in certain frogs; others are held in cells, as in the Surinam toad; others find shelter In a pouch of the female, as the young of the kangaroo, or in the pouch of the male, as In the case of the seahorse. But the most remarkable instances are those where certain fishes take the young into the mouths and hold them antil they are large enough to care for A most interesting Inthemselves. stance of this is found in the chromis, of the Sea of Tiberias, a large and finely formed fish.
