Show THE UTAH YALLEY Fltlll AY. GAZETTE. MAY 9, GOING NIGHT ALONG. Win. Prober t Just i the Right your Order to TIIK tTTE by Telephone- - Ho. SI). The lBrovo Last Monday morning Superintendent William Probert began work in dead earnest on tbe Provo Street Railway. The rails for tbe track arrived Saturday. Every thing was got in readiness to begin work at once. Owing to tbe foresight of Mr. Probert nothing was wanting to begin the work of track laying In good shape. The ties which Judge J. D. Jones got distributed along tbe line some time ago, were already to facilitate progress. An experienced and first class track layer was placed in charge of ft large gang of laborers and the way work was pushed would have made a thousGround was sick. and moss-bacbroken the first day from the depot almost to the door of the Gazette tabernacle. Ties were laid for about a block and some iron put down. Every one could see that the motive power behind the interprise was new in Provo public works and a great improvement on the usual run was the judgment of almost every one who passed by. With all possible speed the street railway will be pushed for the Lake Shore. The hardest part of the work by far is tearing up tbe center of such solid streets as J and Centre where the ground has been packed like concrete and it takes an eight mule team to do anv thing at all with a plow or any sort of an instrument used for breaking up the soil preparatory to laying the ties. Superintendent Probert is of tbe iipinion entirely new rolling stock will lie used. There has been some talk of buying second hand cars in Salt Lake City but tbere is a decided opinion lhat to pay first class prices for second hand rolling stock would be irreparable folly. The subject of motive power is also being considered and it is likely that a motor will be introduced to mako the long trips to the lake for instance. This street railway will do wonders for Provo City. By Thursday noon Supt. Proberts men had begun to push their line down Center Street towards the lake. In spite of Borne little delays the ties and track have been laid from tbs depot to tbe bank corner in three and a half days. At this rate tbe lake will be reachedr,- in a week or so. From SPcrerary'xnni.-DacnmaTJit we learn that entirely new rolling stock will be ordered. Kestaurant. C. 11. Bloomaterbcrg has nearly completed his contract with the city. It was tbe idea of the club to make this ball an event In the social record of Provo, and they certainly succeeded. The Opera House presented a sight. At the farther end of the stage were triced up the two iltw boats just received by the club, which were freely ornamented with their colors, black and gold, and these were a center of admiration during the evening for the graceful proportions and line workmanship displayed. The people here were favored with the presence of the Presidency of the Stake. They was here to try and settle difficulties which exists between the Bishop and the people in general. A vote was called to sustain the Bishop in his high official position; but alas many were stubborn and would not vote for bimil In a Bhort time bauds were seen raised against him, which caused the Presidency of the Stake to look exceedingly sour. TheBishop here is not a veiy bad man, but tbe people have good reason to believe that a change - would be beneficial to this town. After meeting yesterday a large concourse of people gatberea at the Bishops residence and portrayed their grievences to the Presidency of the Stake. The people in vast numbers stood on street corners and discussed the grand query shall we get another Bishop V or shall we try and be contented with the present one? It was amusing and interesting to witness the pecular actions of the people here, and many were irritated and warm, while others were cold and indifferent. Tbe Presidency has left, but talk about the Bishop still continues. Poor Bishop why doss lie not resign, and bid farewell as Leader of Fountain Green, and thus escape being tormented by tbe good and bad of this townW.. Yours llespy, A Utah Boy. . - Ikied.
