HALLKTT C0 Ss 999, TOBXLABP, Maws. aaa re-cour- ces Keen, prudent business men who are qualified from practical experience to judge have only to come and axam-in- e Provo and her surroundings to be convinced that she offers advantages to capital superior to all and Inferior to none of the great towns of the west that have been so studiously advertised while Provo has remained practically unnoti e 1. Not a day passes without some forcible reminder of undeveloped advantages at the door of Provo which only need to be known to be seized upon by capitalists with greater profit than anything in either Salt Lake or Ogden can claim to offer. One of these is suggested by Mr. Wm. Trobert one of the most enterprising, sound and solid of Utah business men. It is nothing less than a scheme which promises to bring the iron and the trade of all Tintic to Provo and at the same time make Utah Lake a highway of commerce as well of a theatre for excursions and to facilitate the establishment of the grandest water resorts in the world along the shores and upon the mountain promontories bordering Utah Lake. The plan which is at once most practicable and simple consists in opening I up X; street three T block, tftc mouth of the. factory stream,- dredging out a channel for a steamboat landing, establishing a steamship line to navigate the lake and on the west side hereof connect with a short railway to Tintic. Cars to be transported the lake to and from the foot of street J upon flat boats, this obviating the necessity of tranafering car loads of mineral or merchandise from cars to boats and vice versa, and bringing he ores and trade of all Tintic to Provo, the natural outlet and supply emporium of that region, but which now seeks markets and supplies at a far greater cost of transportation at a distance many times as great, In Salt Lake City. In connection with the establishment of .this landing and steamboat line from the foot of J street, the most near and convenient place on the lake shore close to Provo, it would also pay to make a specialty of the excursion business in season. .Excursion parties could be taken from the railways at Lehi and brought by water to Proyo or carried across the lake to the Point of the mountain where are scenic attractions and bathing facilities second to none in the Territory. Goshen, Lake Shore, Pay son, Spanish Fork, Lehi and American Fork would come in for a share of the benefits of this enterprise and could well afford to build wharves and build roads to afford convenient and attractive landings for a steamer. Now that a bounty is offered for the production of iron from ore mined in this territory, that industry alone would be profitably followed in Provo if the crude mineral could be brought cheaply from the vast iron ore beds across the lake as it could by done by the means suggested. Not only has Provo unlimited water power but the Lake of fresh water at her feet gives her advantages of great moment, over both Ogden and Salt Lake City. It renders feasible the surrounding of the city with manufactorus and smelting machinery drawing water from the lake for use in engines while the water of Sait Lake cannot be so used. The great mineral deposits in Utah are largely south of Provo too. Provo is the nearest railway centre where crude material and mineral can be best With the new railway handled. connecting this city with the Park directly, witli the new gold discoveries in Rock Canyon not two miles from the City limits; with asphalt and coal nearer by than they are to any other large Utah city, with the finest fertile agricultural valley Immediately Provo ia indisputably ahead far ahead of both Ogden and Sait Lake. And yet another and an important tiling too. Perhaps it is not generally known .that Dixie" in southern Utah produces the finest cotton in the world; cotton which cannot now be profitably raised down there r"1 TraWhPSeUTH, Jn. either their natural advantages, or surroundings in point of commercial value or desirability for residence and general manufacturing and business purposes with the Gem of Utah's lovely cities, Provo, the Garden city of the whole Rocky mountain region. 35 cents; cutting Shaving 5 cents. Hair The thoughtful public in the great centers of population in the west have yet to learn generally that neither Ogden not Salt Lake city can measure - ac-cro-ss because of the lack of railway transportation a want which without doubt will be filled within a year or two at most. And then where in the whole west can the crude cotton be more readily and profitably manufactured than right here in Provo. In the manufacture of cotton fabrics it is well known that large quantities of water and meadow are needed for blleaching purposes. Utah Lake with her grassy shores just supplies these requirements which are totally wanting both at Ogden and at Salt Lake City as the salt water of Salt Lake would not do at all for the purpose to say nothing of the barren dirty shores of the Dead Sea of America. Tnen in point of grandeur of environments or beauty, healthfulness and magnificence of location Provo transcends not only Salt Lake and Ogden infinitely but any location in the entire Rocky Mountain region. Her railway facilities already so good are about to be doubled. Ogden as a railway centre has reached the height of her Importance, Salt Lake City may have something in store for her; but undeveloped Provo with the vast mineral deposits south of her gates bas an assured railway future which will eclipse them both. No wonder that those investors who have made a study of Provo's location are y ready to back her future against the world. to-da- O'llen Kebo Wii.iifcRefiarin. Consistency is a jewel. Capital Stock, One Hundred Thousand Dollars Great enthusiasm Krsry-thln- g Booming. On Tuesday afternoon and evening a large meeting of citizen stockholders met in the Court House in Provo and proceeded to complete the organization of the Provo Street Railway Company. Judge Dusenberry presided. Don R. Corey of the firm of Dodd and Coray was chosen secretary of the meeting and George Ilavercamp of the firm of Ilavercamp and Clark, assistant Secretary. Articles of incorporating were adopted placing the capital stock of the concern at 8100,000.00, nearly half of which was at once taken. It was agreed to place the limit of the distance to be covered by the companys lines at twenty miles. Construction operations are to commence at once. It is proposed to build from the Rio Grande depot at the foet of J Street, up J Street to Centre Street and from the asylum along Centre Street west to the Lake Shore. No dalay is to be tolerated. The great demands of business and public travel increasing so rapidly every day in Provo make the immediate construction of this street railway an impara-tiv-e necessity. Judge J. D. Jones read some estimates showing that the approximate cost of the road including rolling stock would not be over 85,000.00 per mile. Judge Dusenberry announced that Salt Lake capitalists wanted to take controlling interest in the road. From statistics adduced it is clear that the enterprise will be a paying investment almost from the start. The asy-uwork which the road can do will alone be a considerable item. Excursion parties and daily travel will be considerable and the cost of operating the some not large. These considera-;ion- s no doubt influenced the sound udgment of Mr. Wm. Pobert who ook occasion to declare in one of his terse brief stirring little speeches that if Provo citizens could not stand by this enterprise and put 'it through without aid from Halt Lakd they ought m ; Idierdovnlikfirtlndmilledss Provo is in a state of excitement The prosperity of the town the past few months has done more to wake up the place and caused more improvements than all that has been accomplished for years before. People who have lived In property, hardly able to pay taxes on their houses or to live in a great degree of comfort, have entered in a more prosperous life and cheered with ready funds, because of the increase of values and sales of portions of their heritage. Real estate men hae been making money, and through outside funds being brought in, all have prospered. There has been no big boom, but a healthy growth, tending to the betterment of every citizen and the planning of much progress for the towu in the near future. With this favorable state of affairs at this, the opening of spring, the busy season of the year, there came a number last evening in the Enquiixr of short articles for the purpose of killing the goose which was laying the the golden eggs. Graham was rampant over this prosperity to the town and the general welfare of the people and so he opened his mud batteries to down tbe real estate business ai.d throttle progress. Some attribute his attack to orders from the church, while others say it comes alone from liis perverse heart and stupide mind. Let that be as it may, people of every creed are loud in denunciation of Graham and his paper, while a large number of his heretofore best advertisers telephoned or sent orders to take out their ads. But he and his paper are so well-knohere, and the circulation of tae Twinkler is so small that its efforts will not seriously disturb the realty market or impede progress. A gentleman said to the writer: I was offered a much larger sum today for a property I have than I was able to get before. And this right alter Graham had said the boom was busted. We do not believ that orders from any church were the enuse of the vicious scrub's outburst of deviltry; pure cursedness and bulldosing sordid mal-c- e was the sole cause. to-d- ay. k Fill iiLKflDP M Coilete HOUSE IN DRESS GOODS.;::::: Clothing & FUrijishigg Goods. -- Sptoto OityTH --9LE?ZEBOTih7 Ok- s- PAINT and -0- wn IL HOUSE.
