Subacription Price: 2.00 per Year. Telephone 365 EDITORIAL Prosperity Sure for Intermountain Area Ogden and Utah, and in fact the entire region, ia facing one of ita greatest years of prosperity. There are those who do not believe this prediction, but facta and indications point in that direction. ' Manufacturing, pig iron production, crop prospects, the condition of livestock, road construction, public building construction, transportation, the condition of public utilities, cement production, sugar, and other lines of industry are bounding forward at a rapid rate. The last two weeks in March, and so far in April, the number of cars the Ogden gateway Sassing through increased. The falling off in freight during the first of the year was largely seasonable. (California spring lambs are commencing to move east, and already the Southern Pacific has delivered to eastern connections here in Ogden, twenty cars of single and 19 double-dec- k lambs. These shipments are but the vanguard of those to follow. Mountain ranges are coming along fine, and range livestock Is in good condition for this time of year. Sheep are in better condition than at this time a year ago, according to the report of the government division of crop and livestock reports. The eteel works at Ironton is running under normal conditions, and the iron water pipe plant is enjoying a good and increasing business. Silver mining is not just what it should be, but as most of the mines carry gold and other values, they manage to maintain good payrolls. The Utah Copper company has rounded out a prosperous year with net earnings around $33,000,000. While a great amount of these earnings will go to the east in the form of dividends, the state where such a mine is located is indeed fortunate and has an asset of great value. The Utah cement mills are anticipating a good year, and the cement business is picking up as the season advances, with heavy orders antici-heavy appropriations Jated through road building and an unusual public building program, the demand for cement should be considerably above the normal before the year is ended and the demand continue through 1931. The expected tariff on cement will Increase the profits of cement companies and the industry is inter-mounta-in east, but they have the blessed assurance that there is unfolding for their use and benefit a substantial competency for which they owe no man. Yes, it is spring time blossom time in this valley, and we boldly assert that there is no spot more lovely on the face of earth. It is ours to love and enjoy, and it is ours to share with our brethren who dwell in the smoke and turmoil of the cities; and thousands are now motoring along our highway and enjoying the scene. Those who raved over cherry blossom time in Japan never saw the cherry blossoms in this favored valley. Hold On to Your Indian If You Have One If any one in Ogden has an old time Indian cigar sign, the big chief who stood outside the door of a tobacco store holding a bunch of cigars in his hand, hold on to it. A news dispatch from New York says these old Indians are coming back. Seven Years of Inc, will establish new air mailing schedule. Electric Power Co. The percentage of users of power has thus grown nearly seven times as fast as population during the past seven years. Of equal Importance is the fact that, since 1922, power plant capacity has doubled while the output of electricity has shown an even larger increase. Concurrently with this . progress a marked Improvement in fuel utilisation has been obtained. In seven years the average amount of coal needed to kilowatt-hou-r of electricity Kroduce a reduced from 2.5 to 1.7 pounds. During 1929 this represented a saving of 23,000,000 tons which would have been burned had the electric industry still operated on the efficiency basis of 1922. Revenues from the sale of current to consumers, however, have grown at a lesser rate due, in a large degree, to the policy of the electric industry of passing on to its customers the benefits accruing from increased economy and efficiency in operation. During these seven years electricity has, as well, come into steadily increasing use in industry and power has been supplied to thousands of farmers and to a multitude of villages in isolated areas.
