Ryan was chosen chairman, and Representative Austin P. Miller secretary. Other members of the commit-tee- r are Senators Wilson McCarthy, W. D. Candland and Knox Patterson, and Representatives George A. Critch-low- ,. James B. Wilson, A. It. Creer, David Hirschi, L. J. Holther and S. M. Jorgensen. Mr. Armstrong was of the opinion that a special session of the legislature should be called to deal with the tax reform matters, as the members of the present legislature are familiar with the situation. He gave them every assurance that they would be taken into all the meetings and de liberations of the commission, and that they would be expressing regret at not being able to attend so often, rather than complaining because they were not invited more frequently. Judge Thurman and Mr. Hammond voiced belief that the plan of having the legislative committee work with the commission was a "happy one. Mr; Hammond said there is no such thing as a satisfactory tax system, but declared, there are tax systems far superior to that in effect here, and he expressed confidence that improvements in the present system may be worked out. Extensive public hearings on the matters under consideration were suggested at the meeting held Tuesday. At these meetings the various interests will be given an opportunity to be heard on the problems considered before any definite program assumes form. Mr. Hammond was instructed to inquire into the matter of offices for the commission and another meeting will be called as soon as this can be done. The commission is required by the law to make a complete leport of its findings to Governor Dern by December 1, 1929. ca.'i-- i 1 - r'vhiPi GVr.ui El meed Early 1 aheui tiij siulil.'t-eii'.- 1 ial I'm-th- e the ,l I't-g- iii it-- -- :o:-.-;i:i- f-- men 4e work. 27th a 1 and Roscoe he !' iluh ciiy.
