Gilbert has a dual role, appearing in two characters of cxuct physical likeness, but diametrically opposed mentally and spiritually. They are twin brothers in the French army, one a sergeant who wins coveted honors for bravery on the; field, the other a lieutenant who turns yellow. Through mistaken identity the one is left in oblivion, while the unworthy one receives the glory of France. Renee Adoree, a native of Paris, incidentally, plays the part of a Parisian girl married to the lieutenant, but in love with the brother. For a time she too, like all concerned, is confused with the identity of these muiam xauunucriON counterparts, but in the end the complications are cleared and all is well. The story was written by George Gibbs, who knows his France as well as the nature of humanity. Jerome Storm, the director, wus conscientious in his effort to present the true ate France and the mosphere of color and verve which characterizes Frenchmen. In the supporting cast are Sham-no- n Day, that lovely Irish girl, who in this picture appears bs a vivavious daughter of the tricolor; Hardy Kirkland, ns the father of the lieutenants as the wife, and Wilson Hummel, Apache killer, willing to perform murder, robbery, or treuchery for a stipulated price. Spectacular war Beenes, good photography and careful attention to detail combine with an interesting plot and the supreme acting of Gilbert and Miss Adoree to make "Honor First a picture that reviewers und public have praised without reserve. war-tim- B.
