Telephone 3G5 Editorial WEBER COUNTY K1IOUI.U HAVE PERMANENT DISPLAY The proposition to bring the Weber county agricultural and horticultural dinpluy from the agricultural building on the state fair grounds to Ogden is a good one, and should le acted on at once while it is yet in good condition. Unfortunately there seems to be no suitable place to house the exhibit permanently. It should he placed where it would bo easily accessible to the public and where strangers might view it. Davis county has her prize exhibit permanently displayed in the state capitol building, but it is questionable if the coenty receives any direct heneift from the exhibit, A place should be found in Ogden for the Weber county display, and it should he open for inspection at all times. The chamber of commerce should have charge of the exhibit and give it the utmost publicity to the end that strangers passing through the city might have the fullest opportunity to view it. It is unfortunate that the Weber county court house or the Ogden city hall have not the room for this exhibit. In addition to the exhibit in the capitol building, Davis county has a creditable display of its products in the court house at Farmington. Secretary Itichards, who was in charge of the livestock division of the state fair, says that hundreds of people commented regarding the Welter county exhibit.' Particularly was there praise from people living in other sections of Utah and other states. "Weber county had a most remarkable exhibit, it was beautiful, it was said Secretary Itichards. complete, The entire committee deserves the communitys congratulations. It would be wonderful to have all or part of this exhibit shown in Ogden and we will endeavor to make arrangements along that line. nr.DEN AS A JOBBING CENTER Without a doubh Ogden is one of the best jobbing centers in the Intermountain west. Every year our wholesale houses show decided increase in number of sales. While the post-wdeflation was knocking this class of business into a cocked hat in the middle west, Ogdens mercantile concerns were in excellent shape to weather the storm; and weather it they did, and now that busines is on the upgrade these businesses are in condition to meet the needs of the vast territory tributary to Ogden. This condition is not alone due to the foresightedness of the owners of these businesses, but due credit must be accorded the bankers of the city whose sound advice had so much to do with financial stability thnt prevailed in times of stress. Another encouraging feature at this time is tho reduced freight rates which has been ordered by the Inter State Commerce Commission and which will soon go into effect. This reduction carries a material reduction on outgoing freight. ar SOMETHING TO CONSIDER Many of the schoolbooks in use in our schools today are ho poorly printed, both from the standpoint of press-wor- k and typography, that it is small .wonder that so many children are compelled to wear glasses. The schoolbook publishers in this age print Ichool books year after year from the same plates, and the pictures become so blurred and smudged that any attractiveness that a schoolbook may have is taken from it. Typographically these same books are very much poorer than there is any need for. Narrow margined pages, poor spacing and many other serious defects are prevalent. The selection of these books is left up to men whose knowledge of optics is very limited and whose knowledge of typography is almost nil. Would it not be a step in the right direction for our state textbook commission to include in its ersonnc a man skilled in optics and a printer of ability? If this were done and the recommendations of such men were heeded, there would he fewer children with defective vision, and if good typography was a requirement, a love of tho beautiful would be unconsciously developed. NOW IS TIIE TIME TO SECURE IRRIGATION WATER Now thnt bids are to be opened in Salt Lake City on October 2.1 for the building of the Echo reservoir, it will be well for the land owners and irrigation companies in the south portion of Davis county to take up the matter of securing water to supplement their irrigation supply. The Davis and Weber Counties Canal company has subscribed for sufficient reservoir water to water all the lands needing water as fur south as Centerville and the North Bountiful districts, and the water can be secured at this time. The Davis and Weber company will not require all the water for the irrigation of lands now being supplied from its canal and has signified its purpose to water additional lands under its segregation if the land owners so desire. Salt Lake City is out to of this purchase 10,000 arre-fcwater, and it is probable that any surplus water which the Davis and Weber company may have can be sold to that city. As the proposition now stands, the only water which will be available, either for irrigation or for Salt Lake City, must be purchased from the Davis and Weber company; and our farmers and land owners should not let the opportunity pass to get it. This will be the last opportunity to secure a full water for the lands of Davis county, supply and our people should not let the chance forever pass. Now is the time to get busy. ct Lament Peterson, who was formerly such loss or dishonest, friends. Stillwell Like the Testamentary Trust, the surance trust does not commence to function until after your death; unlike the testamentary trust, no will is necessary. In forming a simple Insurance Trust, you assign your life insurance policies to the trust company and provide in your trust agreement how the proceeds shall be invested for the benefit of your dependents; how tl income shall be used for their benefit, and when the residue of the funds shall be paid over to them. The Insurance Trust makes certain that your dependents will receive the income and principal from the proceeds of your policies. Evidently you should leave an estate of $00,000.00 instead of $30,000.00, which you can readily do under the Insurance Trust plan. You place your securities in a trust with the directions that the income be used to pay the premiums on the new $30,000.00 of insurance you have taken out. You should also direct that the entire $60,000.00 be held in a trust for the benefit of your dependents as. explained in re marks on testamentary trusts. The plan is simplicity itself: Makes your securities pay the premiums on the new policies, and has the trust company do the work.
