For the first 3:08 in the game it looked like no one would score as the lids seemed to be on the baskets. Neither team could score until Travis Bowen nailed a trey to end the defensive battle, and all the Colts could muster in the quarter were two free throws by Scott Weidaur. Davis decided to put Cottonwood down for the count in the first with 1:06 in the quarter. Brad Barton threaded the needle between three Colt defenders to Trav Bowen as the Darts extended their lead 10-The second quarter saw a Dart team that was determined to make a statement in a defensive stance the Colts. when they Pacing the Darts in rebounds was the emerging Dan Howard when he let the Colts know that you dont bring that stuff in here, as he swatted ball after ball away to keep the Colts wondering they had to do to score. As Howard kept the Colts corralled, Cottonwood responded with some very physical contact, pushing Howard around the key. Howard responded by stating, Its not very hard to push 7 feet, 215 pounds around. We had to be very smart with the ball tonight. Coach Welk told us that we had to concentrate on our defense against Cottonwood because if they get loose they can light it up, Howard said" The first half shooting told the story as the Colts hit 3-- for 13 per- cent while the Darts connected 4 for 42 percent. From that point 10-2- on the Darts built the score up to let the reserves play and in the fourth quarter Cottonwood outscored the Darts 16-Still not enough to make a dent in the game. This was a good win for us," said Davis head coach Jay Welk. "We played well defensively. We were active in the zone in the first quarter and that was the key. All five starters were active in the win. and we had good bench scoring and that helped. That was not the Cottonwood that we have played before. They can and will have better shooting nights. We have to be careful when we play them at their house. 4. We got a lot of confidence with this win. We had some hard practices this week and we just have to keep working hard and good things will happen, Ted Holhst said. The Darts' next game will be the always tough Skyline Eagles at their home nest. 12 6 15 15 Davis 7 2 7 Cottonwood 2 Davis - Howard 12, T. Jensen 11, Hollist 9, Bowen 6, May 4, Thacker 2, D.
