In Utah County, one of the best scenic drives is the Alpine Loop, have too much trouble in a drive vehicle with high clearance, but I wouldnt go too far on two-whe- which starts in American Fork Canyon and runs over the mountains to Provo Canyon. It offers spectacular vistas and stunning colors. into autumn tapestries of red and gold. With the kids home for U.E.A. this weekend, its a great time to pile into the car and go exploring. There are many excellent routes you can travel to see the beauties of fall, and some offer interesting side trips that can make the tour more fun. If you want to travel north, drive to Mountain Green and take up the Trappers Loop road that crosses over the mountain to Pineview. It will give you a great view of the back of Mount Ogden as well as numerous canyons and ridges that are full of colorful leaves. You might want to pack a fishing rod or two, and a picnic lunch. Stop at Pineview, eat your lunch on the beach, and do a little fishing. The perch should be biting on night crawlers, and when you find a school you can keep the kids busy This trip also provides some fun fishing opportunities. The stream in American Fork Canyon can have good trout Fishing, as can the Provo River. Tibbie Fork Reservoir, which is also in American Fork Canyon is another fun fishing spot. In Salt Lake City, take a drive up to Park and Jordanelle winds through Reservoir. Parleys Canyon, which in spite of City the dirt in the family car. At the base of the B in Bountiful, you can take the road that loops past Bountiful Peak and on into Farmington Canyon. This gravel road is graded and can usually be traveled by car, but if the weather has been wet, or there is snow on the ground, leave the travel to four wheel drive vehicles. Fall also triggers the spawning of kokanee salmon, which causes these fish to turn bright red. Strawberry Reservoir and East Canyon Reservoir both have good populations of kokanee. Hobble Creek Canyon is paved at the bottom, but if you take either fork, you will eventually end up on a dirt road. If the weather is dry, you shouldnt resercolor- ful fish. At East Canyon, you might be able to see the fish as they leave the lake and run up East Canyon Creek. At Strawberry, the best place to view the kokanee is below the fish trap on the Strawberry River. It is fascinating to see these scarlet fish making their way up the river. Fall is here and the colors are beautiful. They wont last long, so take a trip to enjoy them while they are at their peak. It is a great way to spend a fall afternoon and a fun activity for U.E.A. weekend. Sports heroes to be honored Who are Utahs greatest sports heroes of the past 100 years'? West Valley Mayor Jerry WEST VALLEY A Wright called the building a beautiful, complete arena that will be the centerpiece of community events. When the arena and surrounding area are developed, he said, most of the (community events) happening here in West Valley will take place here in this area. The mayor also thanked the hundreds of citizens who signed the final two beams, which were placed in the northeast corner of the building, at the ceiling. They will be visible from inside the arena. The building, which will seat 10.400 for hockey and up to 2.000 for other events such as musical concerts, is also expected to host wrestling matches, tractor pulls, and other popular events. Mike Leavitt n has agreed to with Steiner a very limited edition of stamps and art prints to help raise money for wetlands preservation. Proceeds from the sale of stamps and prints to Utah's wetland preservation programs. Steiner's acrylic paintings have been reproduced on 38 state duck stamp designs, more than any other in the country. The 1996 Utah Duck Stamp print features geese or speckle bellies in the warm colors of dawn. This year the waterfowl stamps will be available in a new format. Instead of sheetlets of 30 stamps, the stamps will be issued in sheetlets of nine stamps each. Each sheetlet has the name of the stamp, the year, the artist name as well as a logo of the stamp design printed in the one inch margin.
