Show i page A4 Friday, September 20, 1 i 996 Davis County Clipper Nan Hakes Jones Obituaries Erika Jacobsen BOUNTIFUL Erika Elfriede Seiter Jacobsen, 82, died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 1996 in Las Vegas of a sudden illness. She was born officiating. Friends may call prior to a m. at the ward. the funeral A viewing will also be held Friday evening from 9 p.m. at Deseret Mortuary, 36 E. 700 S.. Salt Lake City Interment will be in the Salt Lake City Cemetery Arrangements are under the direction ot 7-- Sept. 18, 1913 in Karlsruhe, Bountiful, with Bishop John Hart Ger- many. She was the daughter of Matthews Mortuary, Montpelier. Wilhelm Heinrich Seiter and Idaho. The heart of our family, our devoted wife, loving mother and giandmother, and a friend to all. passed away Sept. 14, 1996 in Bountiful, Utah. Nan was the 11th of 12 chil- dren born to Collins Riley and Em ma Pomeroy Hakes on August 9, 1920 in Mesa, Ariz. She married Monte J. Jones on April 15, 1942, later sealed in the Los Angeles Temple on Feb. 23, 1961. Lived in Arizona, California and Oregon before retiring in Bountiful, Utah. An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints, she faithfully served in numerous callings throughout her life. She loved the gospel and taught it by example. She will be remembered for her many acts of selfless service and exceptional thoughtfulness. She leaves a lega- missed. Stewart, Kodiak, Alaska. Brother Nan retired as bakery manager Russell Hakes, Lehi and sister John Stewart, nephews Snowflake, Ariz. and Walter homa and many nieces and nephews. Graveside services and interment will be held in Medford, Oregon. The family w'ishes to express special thanks to Craig Ferguson and the nursing staff at South Davis Community Hospital for their loving care and sensitivity to our mom. from Harry and David Co., Medford, Oregon where she was well known for developing wonderful confections. She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, sons, Monte and Jan Jones, Centerville; Bill and Lorie Jones, and Bryant and JJ Jones, Kent, Washington and 12 grandchildren. Nan also reared Lynne Powell, Woodward, Okla- cy of faith, unconditional love and service. She will be greatly Martha Johanna Julie Hartmann. Harold Jacobsen on Jan. 31, 1940 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died July 9, 1990. She immigrated to the United States with her family in 1928, at the age of 14. Her outstanding accomplishments include graduating from Brigham Young Academy (University), Genealogical library cataloger of foreign films and books, interpreter, Centerville Elementary School teacher for the third grade for 17 years, Relief Society president, pianist, Sunday School 1962-197- teacher, genealogist, family historian and much more. She is survived by three daugh- ters and one son. Carma (Dallas) Domey, Ogden; Kathryn (Leonard) Matthews, Montpelier. Idaho; Connie Chamberlain, Littleton, CO; Harold A. (Carrie) Jacobsen, Las Vegas, Nev.; 21 grandchildren. 10 step grandchildren ; 7 great grandchildren and 6 grandchildren; 1 brother, Helmut Seiter, Salt Lake. Preceded in death by two sisters, Paula and Mathilde and brothers, Walter and Oscar, Gustav and Wilhelm. Funeral services will be held Satstep-gre- a.m. at the Val Verda 3rd Ward. 2633 S. 50 W.. urday, Sept. 21 at 11 Vera C. Lewis OGDEN Vera Carter Lewis, 96, died Monday. Sept. 9. 1996 at McKay-De- e Hospital following a stroke. She was born Dec. 17, 1899 in Preston, Idaho, a daughter of George Dominicus and Catherine Mary Eames Carter. She married Alfred Marion Lewis Aug. 21, 1918 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died Dec. 25, 1972. She was raised and educated in Preston. Idaho and Logan. She lived in Bountiful for 20 years and lived in the Ogden area most of her life. She was a graduate of Utah State University. A member of the Highland LDS Ward, she held many and various positions in the church including Relief Society presi- dent, Temple Worker, missionary and stake Golden Gleaner Leader. For a long time Mrs. Lewis worked for Utah Tailoring Mills. She was a member of the Chi- ldrens Hour Club. She loved needlework and was the chief cookie baker of the family. She w'as an active member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Surviving are one son. Dr. O. Marvin and Sharon Lewis, Jack Ogden; one DeHaas, Fruitland, Fla.; six grandchildren and 15 great son-in-la- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Kathryn DeHaas and five brothers. Funeral services were held at the Highland LDS Ward with Bishop D. Jerry Nelson, officiat- ing. Interment. Ogden City Cemetery. Hal Sunderlin Eldredge Sunderlin Eldredge, Hal 83. passed away in Las Vegas, Nevada on Sept. 17, 1996. He was born Feb. 24, 1913 in Woods Cross, Utah. He is survived by his wife, Verda of Las Vegas; son, Steve, Denver. Colo.; three daughters, Lana Schenk. Salt Lake City; Janet Eldredge, Las Vegas, Nev.; Celia Belcher, Salt Lake City; 12 grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren. Graveside funeral services will be Monday. Sept. 23, 1996 at 10 a.m. at Bountiful City Cemetery, 2020 S. 200 W Bountiful. Friends may call at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary on Sunday, Sept. 22, 1996 from 8 p.m. Funeral services also being held Sept. 20. 1996 in Las Vegas. Nev. interment. Bountiful City 6-- Ladies day to be held Sept. 24 at Viewmont High School Kimberly Keate also our golf team will be playing at Eagiewood! On a more serious note, I would like to thank everyone for their cooperation and support for the Joe Yanowsky Memorial Day, which was held today. Coach Yanowsky was a great man. He was faced with one of lifes hardest challenges, a brain tumor, which eventually took his life. But even as he was suffering, his And Student Reporter Happy Friday Vikes!! I hope you are all as excited for this weekend as I am!!! Everyone e come to the party on the VHS parking lot at 5 tonight!! We'll be eating scrumptious free food, playing some wild games, and decorating our cars for the drive up to Davis, for the football game at 7. This game is guaranteed to be one of the biggest games this year. It is the Dart's Homecoming game, and boy are they going to be upset as the Vikes take over their territory. Good luck Vikes! Well Vikings, next week is the week we have all been waiting for. Its UEA which means we only have to come to school for three days!! And if you are like me, you are going to have some awesome long weekend! So feel free to sleep in, go to Powell or just play with your friends, and learn to enjoy the simple life. But don't get too carried away. pre-gam- because Monday we have to go back to school, and start our Homecoming Week! Remember that Tuesday is ladies day at Viewmont, when our ladies soccer team will travel down to Cottonwood. Those girls have hud an awesome year so far, so everyone head on down to Cottonwood, to watch our team defeat the Colts. Also, our girls tennis team has a match against Bountiful. That match will take place at the VHS tennis courts! And last, but most definitely not least, is the volleyball game at Davis! Wednesday to start off the long weekend Highland and Davis will show up, only to be crushed by the cross country team on our own home course! philosophies of life didnt change, he was always seen smiling, laughing and living his life to the fullest. He never showed us his pain, only his love. He taught us to make the most of life, and to make the best of w ho we were. Joe Yanowsky, we love you! Thank you for touching our lives.
