BOUNTIFUL Beyond finding friends and activities for members of the The New- comers Club of Salt Lake City was formed in the fall of 1948 by three women who met in the YMCA. From that quiet start 48 years ago the Newcomers Club of Salt Lake City has grown to over 800 members and includes women of Davis County. The purpose of the club when it was started as now remains the same: to help women who have moved here from outside of the state find new friends and new interests. Men and women who have moved into the Salt Lake City area in the last two years are eligible for membership in the Newcomers Club at any time. For those who have moved into the area more than two years ago, there is open enrollment in each March and September. In Davis County, Bev Snyder, has more information on membership and her Stitch and Chat 299-114- 8, group. Activities include a monthly meeting as well as groups that play tennis, golf, bridge, book discussions, a supper club, a g drens play group, a chil- baby-sittin- co-o- crafts and many more p, club. Newcomers Club also supports local charitable and community groups such as the March of Dimes, the Children's Museum of Utah, the Family support Center, Hospice, and the Domes- tic Violence Program of the Legal Aid Society. One of the recent fundraising activities of the club has been the publishing of a cookbook made up of the best recipes of the clubs members. The cookbook called Our Favorite Recipes brings the very best recipes of women from across the United States together in one volume. The cost of the cookbook is $10.00 with the proceeds all going to local organizations. In Davis County the book is on sale at An Angels Attic, (phone 5 for details) and from Newcomers Club members. Recipes range from appetizers to cakes and cookies and include great recipes for family dining as well as recipes for entertaining in style. Because the recipes originated in other areas of the country, there are many fresh new ideas. Three Davis County members 295-049- of Newcomers Club have contributed some of their favorite recipes.
