Show Davis County Clipper pirfis soccer star excels at WSU WX Signing a letter of intent to play goalkeeper For Weber State is Amber Ivie, a junior out of Woods Cross High School, and a two-yemember of Weber States womens club soccer team. Ivie was a member of the 1994 National Club Soccer ar Association Championship team from Weber State with a record of 1 and a member of the 1995 team that placed third in the nation. In 1995, hie was the starting varsity goalie and team for three straight years and 25-3-- in helped the Wildcats to two straight 4A championships in 1991 and 1992. In 1992 she was named goalkeeper on the first team and was an Second Team and 1993. In August was named Athlete by the Davis County All-Sta- te All-Sta- te pick in 1991 of 1993, Ivie of the Week Clipper In Girls AAAAA Competition, Ivie played goalie for teams that were state champi- ons for seven out of eight years and were runner-up- s her first year of competition. I love the state and our station Its a challenge but we really work as a team, said Nickles. Nickles had two goals, become a journalist and play in the Olympics Ive wanted to be a journalist since the eighth grade I learned the trade at a TV station in et Yakima, Nickles Washington," I did everything said from reporting, anchoring, writing, It was a editing and producing great learning experience Nickles was born in Seattle, Washington and is the eighth of nine children What can I say, I was born on a team, said Nickles. We had wonderful parents who taught us the meaning of teamwork Marys mother passed away about two years ago Mom was a state legislator for ten years and was involved in many community programs, said Nickles Mary graduated from Renton High School where she earned a total of 11 varsity letters in bas brothers played professional basketball in Europe and was one of the leagues leading scorers He came home and tried out for the Seattle Supersonics and was the last one cut He now runs a company and is doing well After junior college. Nickles went on to play volleyball for Lewis-ClaiCollege in Lewiston. Idaho Nickles earned a degree in English and was listed in Whos Who in American Colleges for academics and athletics "We had a great team and I enjoyed playing college volleyball but education was just as important," said Nickles When Mary arrived in Salt Lake she was picked to play volleyball at the Utah Summer Games This year was her sixth at the games and she returned with gold and silver medals I went down to play on my team (Digit) and while regular there I was asked to play on a Tongan team I played 10 games on Thursday and 14 I riday plus I worked lor the station," said Nickles Nickles won the gold with her Digit team while the Tongan team earned silver Two tears ago.
