The Society was organized in 1951 to perpetuate the pioneer lifesaving work of Longfellow, Roe was a volunteer swimming and lifesaving instructor in Preston, Idaho and Logan, Utah, until mid-194- 2 when he became a national field representative for Red Cross, to serve e until drafted. His assignments included training instructors for survival and combat swimming and survival after ditching an aircraft.
