Mr. Hairston was one of the first and perhaps the most influential of black musicians to be successful in 6,500-se- at bringing the ethnic music of black culture into the entertainment area of our society, said Dr. Jerold Ottley, musical director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. He has had a profound affect on the educational institutions of this country through his many workschool with of all ages, as well as unichildren shops versity students.
