Show Saturday, May FARM, HOME and GARDEN CEU commencement June Commencement exercises for the College of Eastern Utah this year will feature Roger A. by JAY M. HALL County Extension Agent It s getting close to that time of the year for fruit growers to spray their apple trees for that pesky little insect called the codling moth, more widely known as the common apple worm. The secret to controlling this pest is to spray at exactly the right time, shortly after the females have emerged from their cocoons and fly forth to lay their eggs on the leaves near the small, budding fruit. In Carbon County, we have located stick um traps baited with Pherocon in apply orchards in Spring Glen, Martin, East Carbon, Price and Garden Creek. Pherocon is a substance which attracts the winged male moth. When we first observe an abundance of males in the traps, indicating the beginning of flight, we know we must spray in about 10 days. The flight usually beings when night time temperatures approach 60 degrees. -- -- Jay Markle, president of Valley Camp Coal Company, as the main speaker.
