Show The Salina Sun 12 Thursday, October ed to railroads for shipment , this is not usually where youd expect to find a trucking company success stoiy. But for Barney Trucking Company, the improbable formula worked out just fine. 13, 1983 Businesses Featured likes to cook. (Continued from Page 1) He said the chief cook, Ranee Baker, is terrific. Shes been with Moms Cafe longer than Carolyn and I have, he laughed. She is a wonderful cook along with her Raedean Woodside, and the rest of the kitchen help. They prepare rolls, everything from scratch-t- he breads, scones, cakes, cookies, pastries all come from the busy kitchen, along with many other specialties. We think this fact is rather refreshing considering the trend today toward boxed and commercialized items found in most restaurants. On weekends, Mel Jensen mans the skillet at Moms Cafe. And any day, Carolyn may substitute for a waitress or one of the kitchen help. We are always ready to assume any position where were needed, Mr. Jensen said. I really enjoy cooking on Saturdays and Sundays, he added. And it gives our cooks a break. I also supervise the weekday night shift. Ranee supervises the day shift. Cooking has long been a hobby of mine; one that started when I was just a kid watching my mother perform her kitchen magic. She could make a meal out of practically nothing. I guess she influenced me in getting excited about cooking. Once I started, my enthusiasm grew. A chef once told me basically all I had to do to cook was use good ingredients with a bit of salt and pepper, then add from there. I order the best ingredients available then try my best to turn them into tasty specialties. Our beef and pork come from the local meat-packiplant owned and operated by Bill Holt He ages and cares for the meat to our specifications. Then I cut our steaks, liver, etc. and we hand-patt- y the hamburger and sausage. Our prep cooks do much of this work along with such tasks as breaking lettuce and preparing other items for our salad bar. In addition, we prepare our own fish and chips from fresh halibut. This is a favorite at the cafe. Mrs. Jensen said she and her husband receive many compliments on the fine food served at Moms Cafe. And we receive some complaints, which we welcome when there is a problem. These complaints keep us on our toes. ril never forget one lady going through on a trip from New York to California who really enjoyed our German Chocolate Pie. She commented that The pie was so delicious, I thought I had died and gone to heaven. The following inscription is found at the beginning of the daily We are menu at Moms Cafe. proud of our food.
