Ladies Softball Winners Announced I Believe it or not but ninety percent; of the friction of daily life is caused by the wrong tone of voice. Ive maintained all along that its not what you say but HOW you say it that counts. If you have any doubts, try this on your baby-- or at least your dog. Think of something mean and nasty; the crabbier the better. Give an oration to the pup, but smile and do it with a pleasant tone of voice. His tail will wag furiously and his eyes will sparkle. Hell lap up every word, for even though the words bespeak chastisement, the tone says love. I recently read of a national study of 5,000 families over a four year period, in which 86 percent listed lack of communication as their number one problem. The study said these same families spent an average of only seventeen minutes per week actually communicating. Tm sure thats not what they all envisioned as they stood at the matrimonial altar. Did the official tying the knot say ...Love, honor, obey. . .and spend 17 minutes a week communicating? Phooey! Communication is only 30 percent verbal. The rest is listening, acting and sharing. Saying, This is what I feel. This is what I expect. Now its your turn. American men are notorious the world over for being reluctant to show affection. They were taught to hide their feelings. But understanding those feelings, expectations and personal needs is more important than any other aspect in any relationship. In my book, its impossible to say I love you today, and then expect it to be remembered till next Christmas. It needs to be repeated and reinforced often. We all make mistakes. We all forget. We all overlook important things once in a while. We have differences of opinion. AND we have conflict. Sometimes a good argument can be beneficial. It can dear the air, and become an opportunity to share our views, and let our partner know how we really feel inside. We can accept correction without hostility, if it is given without antagonism. It doesnt always wort that way at school, or at the office. Most bosses arent known for their candor. But we can make it that way with those we deal with personally. Like most things, criticism can Its become a useful tool-wh- en love. with tempered in first place, Redmond in second place, and Aurora First in third place.
