But I come mostly for what I can give, not ' what I can get. Isnt that a wonderful philosphy for doing anything worthwhile? It certainly is a good enough reason to come and support the Salina Senior Citizens Club. The nice thing about it is: Even if you do come just to give of yourself to ' others who need your company, almost certain to benefit youre ' from the great things the center now has and will have to offer. Keep up the good work, Leah. You are one of the many people who triesto make our area a better place in which to live. As many of you know, I run in and out of my office all day taking pictures, etc. Most of the time when I leave, someone is there to answer the phone, take messages, etc. Sometimes, however, I must leave no one there. To help me out in those situations, I have installed a Duophone. This tape recorder greets the telephone caller with my sexy voice and invites them to leave their name, phone number and message. The legislature passes laws to make it harder on child moles tors and they still cant do it right. Make it tough! Dont slap their wrists. Utah has the most lenient judicial system in the country, yet we do not even have the right to defend our own homes against criminals by force. If you do, youre in bad trouble. Yet, a convicted murderer can get less of a sentence than a poacher. Its time to quit ignoring the wishes of the people. Its time for a change! Garff of Bountiful stated Repeal of daylight saving time "would put Utah out of sync with the rest of the U.S. Not so. Rep. t - I thought this was America, but maybe I was wrong. Now, I have changed my mind. I think I want to be a state legislator. Who else has it so good? They make an excellent salaiy and they dont even have to think. They are told what to do by certain people and certain organizations who want things to go their way. Legislators . are supposed to be elected by the the will of the people, people to-dfacnot wharo&tain ' tions want done.' ' As things appear today, the legislature is our Big Brother, the judges of our morals and standards, the literal rulers of the state. Senator Sowards of Vernal said Senators are elected to do the peoples business, but this is not , the way things are working out ; Either our legislators need to j change their way of thinking, or we need a whole new bunch of legisla- tors who will represent all the t people, not just part of them. Now she is doing her best to serve her fellow senior citizens. It is not to condemn or even to complain. It is to make a simple request, which we believe will make things easier on the city police and on this newspaper. Police Chief Gordon Kiesel has been more than cooperative in giving information to The Sun whenever it comes to collect items for the Salina Police Report. Staff members at the office, however, have been told reportedly, that no one other than Mr. Kiesel is to give information to the newspaper. There is nothing wrong with this policy when it comes to getting information on serious crimes where rumors are rampant. When it comes to simple facts of a case, however, such as whether charges have been filed, what the charges are or what the amount of bail is, then having to wait for an official spokesman can be bothersome and frustrating for both the newspaper and for the city workers who usually stammer and apologize for having to be a party to such an unnecessary inconvenience. We suggest that the city workers who have access to the public police report be given certain guidelines when the newspaper or radio calls for information. We suggest that key among those guidelines be this: If the information requested is contained in the official police report, then the matter can be read to the press without authorization from any official source. Why not get the facts out in an expeditious manner, rather than allow rumors to float around which usually do more harm than good? -- I know for a fact the great woric Merrill has done.
