Halloween usually is a happy time for youngsters who love sacks. It can also be a time of spooky stories and candy-fille- d to children when fail observe tragedy proper safety precautions. With the help of the Utah Safety Council, The News offers the following tips to kids to keep them from harm this Saturday evening: 1. Wear a costume that is light in color. Decorate it with reflective tape of flourescent paint so drivers can see you easily. 2. Paint your own Halloween mask with makeup. Or, if you have to wear a mask, make the big enough you can see to the sides. 3. Carry a flashlight to be really safe never a candle. 4. Young children, be sure you trick or treat with an adult; older kids, make sure you are in a group. 5. Ask your parents how far to go from the house and at what time to be back. 6. DO NOT go inside strange houses or apartments. 7. Let your parents check your treats BEFORE you eat any. 8. Call on one side of the street, then the other. Dont cross-cros- s the street. 9. Be sure you look in all directions before you cross the street and cross only at corners; never from between parked cars and NEVER in the middle of the street. 10. Watch and obey all traffic lights. Walk, never run, across the street. Use sidewalks ; do not walk in the street. Wait on the curb, not in the street, until the street is clear to cross. Adults can help keep kids safe by driving extra carefully and courteously during trick or treating hours and by keeping their porch lights on while kids are in the neighborhood. We encourage all residents to get in the spirit of Halloween and to be hospitable and friendly to the little visitors who yell Trick or Treat at your door this Saturday. eye-openin- The NSHS girls volleyball team is undefeated in regular play this year. "They have more talent and depth than any school in Utah. She says although the team hasnt had much competition in league play, region and state games will be challenging. I feel confident they can take both region and state. They are super talented girls," she interjected. "We only have one senior; well be strong for years to come. Coach Bone talked about some of her players: "Anna Turner is our only senior. The margin of victory was not an indicator of the closeness of the game as the Wolves had two T.D.s called back. The Wolves once again were attacked through the air as the Beavers rolled up 174 yards by passing, but were shut down on the ground for 98 yards. They totalled 272 yards. The W olves lone score was an excellent second quarter punt return by Glen Bills for 82 yards. North Sevier managed 86 yards by the air waves and 152 yards on the ground for 238 total yards. This ends the Wolves season, which has had its ups and downs. Coach Glen Partridge would like to thank all those who contributed their support and es- pecially the drill team, cheerleader, the NSHS band and their leader, Lynn Paulson, and all the plus faculty that helped the parents. And were doing our small part by encouraging people through this editorial. Why do newspapers continue to run editorials explaining to the public that it is their duty to vote, and that the candidates they choose, especially in city and town elections will probably have more direct impact on their lives than anyone else they vote for? We do it because we think its important. And we do it because unfortunately, there is still a large segment of persons of voting age who do not go to the polls. It seems almost incredible that with freedom so rare in so much of the world, that there are still voters who dont cast ballots, simply because they are apathetic! The reasons, of course, vary. This can be everything from not being registered (another indication of apathy), not interested, dont care, theyre all crooks anyway, to I dont know any of the candidates, I dont know where to vote, or what difference does my vote make? If these people would only realize that if enough people dont vote, the candidates whom they may not have particularly' chosen, will probably win, simply because there were enough people who did vote, and elected them. It means that these people are letting someone else decide for them who will run the cities and towns. But perhaps the saddest and most significant thing is that these people dont have enough interest, initiative or downright American spirit of freedom to get off their duff and find out who is running, and then cast their ballot. There isnt any candidate running who is the choice of of the citizens. But at least voters can decide which of the bunch they like the best, even if they dont like any of them. It isnt likely that chastisement, such as this editorial is attempting, will make too much difference in increasing the number of voters at the polls. But we arent going to give up in trying to encourage citizens to vote. Being able to go to the polls and take a ballot inside a voting with choices for every office isnt possible in alone booth And as long as people continue to fail to vote, the nation. every freedom in this country continues to have just a little more threat.
