Show THE SUN Wolf Tracks Z Parents, did you know tljat the interest of students in the math classes offered at North Sevier has A declined considerably in recent years? This could be a serious problem considering that 80 of future job opportunities are expected to involve math in sOme phase or other. Richard White, counselor al North Sevier, states, .The more math a student takes, the more opportunities they will open for t&pmselves in the world of work, ZA reason for the decline i)i; math enrollment could be the fact that in previous years students were only required to take math classes in seventh and eighth grades. High school students (ninth grade inwere cluded) only required one math credit to graduate. Hence, many students put off taking a math class until they had to do so, and then they only took a very basic skills class. ;From this year on, however, all ninth graders Will be required to take a (path class. Hopefully, this will instill in them more interest to continue in advanced math later on. Also with this new requirement the math department is expected to in crease in the number of enrolled students in the next few years.
