Currently, scientists are looking carefully at beef consumcancer ption and colon and recommending that meat be eaten sparingly. Science has proven the health code to be a prophetic pronouncement of what the Mormons now know as common sense. This was emphasized by Utah Foundation, the tax research organization in a study of tax sale procedures in Utah. Although the loss of a home through a tax sale is rare, the Foundation report notes that the Utah There were 28,000 farm procedure is open to workers on Utah farms criticism. The current medhod of bidding at a tax sale is cumbersome and actually increases the number of properties which have to be handled. 6. There appears to be a substantial gap in communications between the state legislature and county officials in the handling of tax sales in Auction Report Producers Livestock Auction, Salina,' Utah, 1980, 29, Friday, Aug. At the preliminary tax sale, held each January, the county registers a formal iien against the property for the unpaid taxes of the previous year. After four years, through a final tax sale, the property may be sold and the title changes hands. Earlier this year, considerable publicity was given to a case involving a widow who almost lost her home during a property tax sale, despite the fact that she had made regular for monthly payments several years. The home had been purchased under a contract sale and the widow assumed that the monthly house payment included an amount for taxes. Meanwhile, the tax notice had been sent to the owner of record and remained unpaid. Happily, the story had a satisfactory ending when an anonymous benefactor paid the back taxes and penalties. The widow was able to retain her home. This case, however, did invoke considerable criticism of tax sale procedures in Utah and even raised some questions concerning the morality of the property tax. It could likely have been prevented had the ljiw changes been enacted to avoid the confusion which present procedures make possible. Commercial Slaughter plants in Utah produced 12.6 million pounds of red meat during July, according to the Utah Crop and Livestock Reporting' Service. The output was 21 per cent more than July, 1979 and one. per cent more than the previous month. , A total of 16,500 he&d of cattle were slaughtered, an increase of 19 per cent from a year earlier. Hog slaughter, totalled 11,900 head, 31 per cent more than last year. Sheep and lambs totalled 1,900 head, the same as last year. .
